Re: Obama wants national ban on concealed carry

So now that Obama is looking more and more like the Democrat candidate for President, I thought it might be time to re-visit this thread.

I emailed Obama's campaign again, but still got the same auto-reply. It really does not appear that his campaign wants to disclose his position on the issue.

I find this curious - and not a small bit dishonest. He's apparently in favor of expanding gun control on a large scale, and yet there is not a single word about it on his official campaign site.

Why, do you suppose, that would be?

Matt

Re: Obama wants national ban on concealed carry

I figure his people know he will lose some support no matter WHICH way he goes, so it's better not to mention it at all and stick to claiming he'll solve all the worlds problems and make things good and nice for all.

I think that you're overreaching in your assumption that emails are replied to by an automated service somehow indicates that the campaign is somehow suppressing anything on this issue. I suspect that, like any candidate's, it is remarkably difficult to get a personal response via email (from any human, not the candidate). This is a function of the volume of email that the campaigns receive and the expense of generating personal responses.

Well, if the assault weapon ban is brought back, at least my bumber sticker will be relevant again: "Ted Kennedey's car has killed more people than my banned assault rifle."

That might be the case, were the emails the basis of my comment.

My comment is based on the fact that while Obama has actively supported gun control, and calls for more bans, his official campaign platform on his official website is silent on the issue.

No surprise here.

Obama is silent on a great many of his plans for this country. In fact I don't think anyone knows for sure what he intends on doing once he gets in the Oval Office. We do know that he will raise all of our taxes by using the usual smoke-screen of saying he will only tax the rich, and that he will try to help blacks any way he can, but the gun ban is pretty much what every Democrat wants. Why would he be any different.

He's a divider not a uniter. He's never followed through on any bipartisan issue. The only time he even came close to acting like he was a candidate for all of the people was during the drafting of the Amnesty Bill, but he promptly placed Poison-pills in the bill assuring that it would fail to pass. He's liberal through and through. He's a Libs wet-dream.

It's because he's down with gun dealers.

Gun dealers ultimately make more money when their stuff is banned, because black market rates are higher than legal market rates.

I think it is well known Obama's position against conceal carry.

Does the idea that Obama thinks his opinion should over-rule the voters and legislatures in 40 of the 50 states cause you any concern?

So you've just accused every gun dealer in the nation of engaging in illegal activity.

You have ANY proof of this allegation, or is it simply another of your completely uninformed comments?

Re: Obama wants national ban on concealed carry

The only thing a ban on concealed carry will do is increase the number of people carrying weapons illegally...

No. His opinion will be as far as he can take it.

Re: Obama wants national ban on concealed carry

So, the voters and state legislators don't count? Interesting position.

Personally, I'm not comfortable with a President who has so little respect for the will of the people. Sadly, our incumbent and all the other choices are little better than Obama on that score.

I fully agree. Voters and many states passed this measure. I don't think he would be able to even get a bill through Congress much less get it passed.

I think his opinion would be as far as he could ever get on the issue.
