Five teenagers mount armed attack on high school

Five face court over high school attack
April 08, 2008 06:02am

FIVE teenage boys have been charged with more than 100 offences following an armed attack at a western Sydney high school.
Emergency crews were called to Merrylands High School, in Merrylands West, following a report that five youths armed with baseball bats, a sword and a machete entered the school about 8.45am (AEST) yesterday.
During the alleged rampage several people were threatened and 18 students and one teacher were injured, police said.
Three people suffered minor injuries during the incident.
A 43-year-old male teacher received head injuries; two students, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, had minor facial injuries.
Two 14-year-old boys from Carramar and Auburn, two 15-year-old boys from Merrylands and Seven Hills and a 16-year-old boy from Merrylands were arrested at the scene.
The boys have since been charged with a total of 101 offences including assault, malicious damage and affray.
All five have been refused bail and will face Parramatta Children's Court today.

What a different outcome when there is no gun proliferation. How much worse would this have been if all of them had easy access to guns? “Three people suffered minor injuries”.
It really speaks for itself.

Kids with baseball bats and machetes are able to terrorize a highschool in Australia.

In the US these kids wouldn't have been able to terrorize anyone. One teacher with a gun would have wasted the lot of them.

No, the violence will still be here, but the body count is a lot lower.

Then why do Chicago and Washington DC have such high murder rates in comparison with other big cities that have more relaxed gun laws, like Dallas and Memphis.

Just not in the right hands.

On a side note, in my eperience with swinging a weapon, desk or chair trumps bat or machete. Why doesn't this read 'Five armed teenagers subdued with office furniture'?

I seriously hope that is a deliberate attempt at putting forward a deceitful misinterpretation and not an accurate display of your intelligence.

No injuries because all 5 kids were wasted by an armed teacher?

Re: Five teenagers mount armed attack on high school

The way I see it we should be thankful that they didn't choose to use home made explosives, napalm, Molotov cocktails, or other deadly implements that can be made from any number of readily available supplies.

Frankly I don't think these kids really wanted to kill anybody. A machete makes murder pretty damn easy so this looks more like a cry for attention than anything else. The victims all suffered relatively mild wounds considering the things these kids had. If a person is really determined to commit murder a lack of firearms will certainly not stop them.

Oh, horseshit.

A threat of suicide would be more along the lines of a "cry for attention".

These kids are vicious, and should be treated accordingly...

The murder rate in Memphis is 20.2 per 100,000
The murder rate in Dallas is 16.4 per 100,000
The murder rate in Chicago is 15.6 per 100,000

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0934323.html

And if you are looking for a city in a state with really restrictive gun laws
The murder rate in New York City is 4.6 per 100,000

Murder is a cultural thing, there are two basic cultures in the US, the northern culture, and the southern culture, the southern culture is more violent, more confrontational, and has a much higher murder rate.
The areas in the north with high murder rates are those which experienced large migrations from the south.

Washington DC is a southern city, with easy access to firearms just outside the city limits, and a high poverty rate, sort of a trifecta.

Have you ever been to the south? Washington DC is certainly not a southern city. The mason dixon line is not the border of the southern culture you are referring to, that is North Carolina and maybe some parts of southern Virginia.

Well when looking at all the other massacres going on in public places the things these kids did pales in comparison. I'm not saying they shouldn't be held accountable each and every one of their crimes, but the attention they sought is much different than school shooters.
