When? Multiple times, by multiple posters.

Here - i'll make it easy on you. This link: GunCite-Gun Control-How Often Are Guns Used in Self-Defense? will take you to a page on an admittedly pro-gun website. From this page, you can find information about a large number of studies on defensive gun usage. You will note the studies are from a variety of sources and over a number of years.

Yes, the link I gave you is to a pro-gun site, but only because it is a known location from which all of these can be accessed.

Oh - here's the DoJ study complete with methodology and supporting documentation: Guns and Crime

And here is an amazing tool for locating additional information: Google

I think you may have posted the wrong thing. On page one of the accompanying press release for Guns and Crime it says

Quote:
During the 1987-1992 period, offenders fired their weapons in
17 percent of all non-fatal handgun crimes, missing the victim
four out of five times. In 3 percent of the non-fatal crimes
committed with handguns, about 21,000 annually, the victim was
wounded. In addition, an average 11,100 were killed each
year.

During the same period an estimated annual average of 62,000
violent crime victims (approximately 1 percent of all violent
crime victims) used a firearm in an effort to defend
themselves. In addition, an annual average of about 20,000
victims of theft, household burglary or motor vehicle theft
attempted to defend their property with guns.
which doesn't seem like 2 mill to me. I will keep reading it and get back to you if I find anything like what's been purported but for the present I'm going to give DB a chance to tell me where he got it from

I'm really glad to know you're prescient in regard to who posted what, but it's nice to be able to say where and when too, otherwise people think you're making it up.

Try googling "FBI crime lab statistics" or "defensive use of handguns".

Maybe if you did a little more research and a little less hand-wringing, you wouldn't be so ignorant on the topic at hand?

In other words, you can't tell you where you got it because you just made it up

A phenomenon you're quite familiar with...

Hi Silicencer,

I agree in many points to your statements. I think like you that gun laws should be restrictive and that the liberal US gun law is partly responsible for the high crime rate (high for a rich country), BUT do you really think foreigners should give advice to US people regarding laws that have just an impact on people in the USA itself?

That sounded more to me like "I'm tired of doing your research for you. The information has been posted and you can locate it in a few moments with a google search."

Thank you for recognizing that while you're free to have your own opinion, there are times when sharing it would be considered rather rude.

Too many Europeans do not seem to understand this. *sigh*...

And to say it again: It's just my personal opinion that weapons should not be freely available to all people. If US people like to have weapons, it's not my problem.

In this case I would disagree, but to discuss it, we would need a new thread.

You mean this is like the "hunters" you met who shared their fantasies about killing minorities? Or the magical handgun that you heard about that can defeat body armor at 300 yards?

Why should I have to research it? He made the statement.

And I'm sorry but the standard for acceptable citations is THE ACTUAL PAGE WHERE THE INFO IS FOUND, "Its somewhere in this book/report/website" is a failing grade on any research paper I've ever heard of.

Can you cite it properly? Or isn't it there?

It's been cited in this thread repeatedly. Why post it again for you to ignore it again?

Given the fact that your credibility has more holes in it than the Detroit Lions defensive line, I think most here will be comfortable taking Dammitboy at his word, while at the same time dismissing your whines for him to "cite" anything for you...
