First U.S. gun control law
The Sullivan Act was one of America’s first gun control laws.
A Senator from New York, Timothy Sullivan was a corrupt Tammany Hall politician who represented New York’s Red Hook district. Merchants and strangers passing through the Red Hook would routinely be relieved of their valuables by armed robbers, who were also Sullivan’s constituents. Soon, people traveling through Red Hook began to arm themselves in order to thwart off Red Hook robbers. This outraged the Red Hook robbers. How dare people arm themselves in their district. It was cutting into profits. So, Sullivan’s outlaw constituents demanded that Sullivan introduce a law that would prohibit concealed carry of pistols, blackjacks, and daggers, thus reducing the risk to robbers from armed victims.
The Sullivan Act did for the criminal's back then what it does for the criminals of today.. It makes their life of crime much easier and much less risky.
The first gun control advocates were criminals.
And today's gun control advocates are criminals.
It's tradition.
