i was thinkin' that blamin' the illegal aliens fer comin' to our country be kinda like blamin' mexico fer the cannabis consumption here in america.

i wanted to put a question to all of ye;
(disclaimer - i don't know nothin' about contractin' and what the costs be, the only tools i own be a hammer and i think i have a tape measure somewhar, so please humor me fer me hypothetical)

yer addin' an addition on yer business, things be goin' well and ye needs more space on yer buildin'.

ye have two crews ye can hire. both teams will build an addition of equal quality.

one team 'o contractors has alot 'o illegal immigrants, irishmen and englishmen who're here without documentation, team "a". the cost fer the addition by this crew will be $30,000.

the other team be made up entirely 'o american citizens, team "b". the cost fer the addition by this crew will be $50,000.

who would ye hire?

Team B is most likely to put the money right back into the American economy whereas Team A would likely buy just the necessities and send the rest back to their country of origin so it's actually better for the US if I hire Team B. I won't even go into the fact that it's illegal to hire Team A.

Why?

Because Team A will add the following costs to government that we'll have to pay back via higher taxes or reduced services or both (I found this points from another forum):

Food stamps.
Free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
Free breakfasts and lunches at school for their kids.
Additional costs for bilingual teachers and books (because most illegals are Hispanic).
High energy bill relief.
We have to pay added insurance costs to cover them driving without auto insurance.
We pay higher taxes for Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
Higher prison costs.
And what Mrs M. said.

So I'd rather pay a bit more for US legal labor and have lower taxes.

And here are a few more things that I just thought of:
Higher costs of road maintenance, public infrastructure maintenance, higher fuel costs due to higher demand (more people), and more traffic that we have to sit in longer.

There is also the reality that they have been illegally voting in US and State elections. Their illegal votes could result in me paying higher taxes.

You would not know that team a was packed with illegals based on a widely different bid nor would the contractor not have undocumented guys (bear in mind that documentation can be obtained cheaply and easily).

Do I know they're illegal immigrants, or do I just suspect that they might be, but the foreman assures me they aren't?

In the end, I would want to bid on the labor that would be most cost effective. Team A fits that bill, provided I don't subsequently get stuck with all manner of fines and legal problems. In that case, team B fits the bill. If knew that Team A was illegal, I would probably present its bid to team B and demand that they come down in price.

I vote team B. As a former employee of a large hotel chain in south Texas most of the legal employees were displaced in the last few years by the influx of illegals. When a legal employee left for what ever reason they were most often replaced by an illegal who would work for lower wages. The claim that these people were working jobs that Americans would not is simply not true we do not have the same options the illegals do. We live in America we do not have the option of working here for 6 moths and then going home where are money will go alot further.

Team A. And then I would report them to the authorities before paying them.
