Is this really a big deal?

In California, you need to have your fingerprints taken in order to acquire a driver's license anyways.

You need to give personal information to buy a firearm, so it only makes sense you must verify that information in order to purchase ammunition.

I wonder if CHIPS officers will be sitting on the border watching to see who goes into the ships that are bound to start popping up that turn aroun and come back into the state ?

It does not seem that they will use this information to validate that its not a felon buying the ammo as is done for the weapons themselves.

Not good...

I understand your point, but what I don't like about the idea is that it is just one more requirement for gun ownership.

I mean, who needs to get rid of the 2nd amendment when you got a myriad laws to make it very difficult to own a gun (you can't have gun that is concealed, you can't have a gun that's loaded, etc.) and a myriad of hoops you have to jump through to buy a gun and now to buy ammo. Essentially the 2nd amendment has been bypassed by using state and local laws to discourage gun ownership.

I wonder what impact this legislation will have on reloads.

Sounds good to me! should be across all states. However, as I have said several times, all gun owners in all states should also be eligible for concealed carry permits as a condition of owning a gun.

I own a gun, it wasn't difficult at all. my crazy friend is a felon, He isn't suppose to own guns, and I'd feel better knowing that he couldn't easily buy ammo if he did.

This legislation won't stop your crazy friend from being able to by ammo, it merely allows law enforcement to track the sale after the fact.
