Thread: Self Defense: Yea or Nay

People have tried complying during home invasions. They end up getting tied up and executed before the criminals take what they want and leave.

If I am the only one home. I say -- Here are the dogs, have fun and leave by any convenient method.

If my family is home. That is a whole different world. I do not like guns, I don't own a gun but I have a large medieval weaponry collection and I am a Scotsman by birth and heritage. Since a Scotsman is never without a blade of some kind I am armed anyways. To start the dogs distract as they come into my Foyer, they may be for companionship but they are also first line protection. While the intruders are dealing with the dogs, my bowie slips between the ribs and into the heart of the person in the back of the group. As he slumps to the ground my hooked knife comes down on the left collar bone and neck to rip into the artery there. This has two down, with 1 or more to go. Unfortunately with guns they probably have shot one dog, if the dogs are not dead they are definitely making it hard for the other attackers to do much. With my Claihdmore in shortened grip I disembowel the next. Faced with the last attacker and room in the foyer to swing, I decapitate him. After all with the weight of a dead dog hanging on your arm because the jaws are clamped in a literal death grip it is hard to lift a weapon to shoot.

The problem with a home invasion with a group of people, even if they have guns, is the confined space works against the group and helps even a lone assailant without a gun have the upper hand. The above scenario is quite possible. With it being dark, the dogs barking and attacking, initially the people coming in won't see me hiding being the door. The first two would be quite easy. The reason I would be able to do this, over 15 years in the SCA doing mock battles and actually playing at being a Scottish Fighter in battle. The adrenalin pumping for the protection of my family would be enough to put me over the squeamishness of actually maiming and killing someone else.
