‘He who lives by the sword dies by the sword’
As much as I admired Ron Paul for his fiscal sensibilities it was EXACTLY this kind of garbage that kept on driving me away from him.
Ron Paul can kiss my ass.
Mine as well. Fuck him.

ahoy Luthef,
thanks fer linkin' this, matey.
Dr. Paul's observations dovetail completely with me own.
Former SEAL and 'American Sniper" Chris Kyle author killed at gun rangefolks with PTSD should have thar 2nd amendment rights rescinded. that was me first comment. Captain Jason Upshaw 'o the local sheriff's department was quoted in USA Today sayin' that Mr. Routh may have been sufferin' from mental illness, he'd even heard rumors 'bout it. if ye have PTSD, ye should lose yer guns, automatically.
instead, Chris Kyle decided that HIS treatment fer PTSD was to take Mr. Routh to a gun range - idiotic. stupid. moronic.
so he got keelhauled.
good fer Dr. Paul. i'd hand'm a pirate hat and eyepatch if he'd have it.

Oh, for fuck's sake.
Not everyone with PTSD is the same. Having PTSD does NOT automatically mean someone is dangerous.
The bigotry it takes to make such blanket statements is truly beneath you, MHP. Please do some research and stop contributing to the bias against people with mental health issues, YAR?

ahoy MattLarson,
don't ye find the OP fundamentally dishonest?
i mean, fer god's sake, why is so HARD to link the entire quote by Dr. Paul? is the USPO server o'erloaded and about to crash?
shiver me timbers, why does the TS strive sooooo hard to misrepresent Dr. Paul?
here it is, fer them who don't mind a long read;
Ron Paul tweets about SEAL sniper's death | The Daily CallerChris Kyle's death seems to confirm that "he who lives by the sword dies by the sword." Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense

ahoy Lutherf,
PTSD and Domestic Abuse: Husbands Who Bring the War Home - The Daily BeastThe majority of studies of treatment-seeking veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or combat-related mental health issues report that at least 50 percent of those veterans commit wife-battering and family violence. Male veterans with PTSD are two to three times more likely than veterans without PTSD to engage in intimate partner violence, according to the VA, which also found that the majority of veterans with combat stress commit at least one act of spousal abuse in their first year post-deployment.
thats fine, matey.
arm them all. protect thar freedoms and liberties.
everythin' be fine, just fine.
- MeadHallPirate
Well, matey, I know people with PTSD who are not dangerous psychopaths, and yet you claim they should be treated as such. That's not a nice thing to say about them, aye?
Sorry, my friend, but when you judge a large group of people the way you do PTSD patients, well, that be bigotry.

Even if those figures are correct "at least 50%" isn't the same as "all".
Over the years I have dealt with LOTS of people with PTSD and although violent and/or impulsive behavior can be part of the equation it's just as likely that when they encounter a "trigger" they will curl up into a ball and simply be non-communicative until they work through the episode. Although there are some commonalities which allow it to be diagnosed the ways it ultimately manifests itself are as varied as the people who suffer from it.
You might also want to consider that PTSD isn't something limited to combat veterans. It's just as likely that someone who was in a relatively minor car accident develops symptoms as it is someone who fought through Fallujah.

Well... they don't call him bat-shit crazy for nothing.

This is exactly that I said on that thread about the guys death, He who lives by the sword dies by it, and who in hell would take a shell shock victim to a firing range? So, I have to agree with Dr Paul, because I said it first. Shell shock is indeed a mental problem. No one with a mental problem should be allowed to hold a gun in his hand. He might wig out and kill someone. Which is exactly what happened!

I started a thread on the PTSD / loss of civil rights issue here: PTSD and rights
Lest we get sidetracked from the sideshow hilarity that is Ron Paul....

Yeah, we should arm everyone with mental disabilities! And put child molestors in charge of a room full of kids. And make rapists security guards a all girl dorms. Only hire alcoholics to make whiskey. Where is the common sense here?
"Like every other good thing in this world, leisure and culture have to be paid for. Fortunately, however, it is not the leisured and the cultured who have to pay." Aldous Huxley.
Holy fucking shit. PTSD is equivalent to being a child molester or a rapist now? That might just be the stupidest fucking thing I have ever read. Seriously, my head hurts now. I need to go take some Advil.
Un fucking believable.
Let's try this again. Not every PTSD patient is dangerous. Some are, and on an INDIVIDUAL basis it is appropriate to make sure those individuals who are diagnosed as dangerous to themselves or others do not have access to firearms. Nobody has suggested otherwise. Clearly, nobody has said "arm everyone with mental disabilities". That is just a completely idiotic straw-man.
Judge each individual based on their own INDIVIDUAL condition, and treat accordingly. That is common sense.
Claiming EVERYONE with PTSD is dangerous, unstable, and the equivelent of a child molester or rapist? That is FUCKING IDIOTIC.
