HMO Changes
Here is a question for people here.
When did HMO's go from Non-profit to Profit? Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "HMOs were required to meet three basic requirements. These were to offer a specified list of benefits to all members, charge all members the same monthly premium, and be structured as a nonprofit organization." Some place between then and now there was a change, but I have not found it.

So it was in 1995 that Congress let them go from Non-profit to Profit?
Or where they For Profit before then and we did not know?

If I understand it yes. They were but were not getting any traction so they passed that law to maybe ge people interested in it. Then business picked up and they just let the provision expire. I gather it was never intended to to last forever.
