There are some religions that do not believe in doctors. Therefore, I was wondering what would be the legal recourse for members of these religions? Would they be required to purchase health care? I know that Christian Scientist do not believe in medical science and there are a few well known liberal Hollywood types that are Christian Scientist. Might make for a interesting court case beyond what various States are suing about.
Are vital U.S. interests more imperiled by what happens in Iraq where were have 50,000 troops, or Afghanistan where we have 100,000, or South Korea where we have 28,000 -- or by what is happening on our border with Mexico?...What does it profit America if we save Anbar and lose Arizona?

The Amish don't have a formal healthcare system, but when someone gets sick and needs hospital treatment, the Amish community pools together and pays cash for the necessary medical treatments for the person. Essentially they already have community health insurance, and hence are exempt.
Its a good question regarding whether you can be allowed a religious exemption though.
"The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort." -- Robert E. Heinlein

Let me play the devil's advocate here. You do not have to abide by the new Health Care mandate that everyone has to have health insurance if your religion is against medical science. Then all a person would have to do is convert to say Scientology. If they need serious medial attention all they would have to do is disavow their beliefs and become say a Baptist. They go to a insurance company and purchase health care. The insurance company can not turn them down due to pre-existing conditions. Problem solved.

I don't know what the rules are on HC, but when you abstain or object to other things based on religious grounds, you have to provide proof that you are actually a part of that religion. You can't just say that you are. And from what I heard, you'd be better off paying than actually converting to Scientology.![]()
First they came for the mimes, and I did not speak out, because I was a mime.
