Diet soda has no calories--unless it promotes some kind of increased appetite?

    Well said well said

Exactly right on the $$ too.

Think about it, that is how God or evolution if you prefer, designed our bodies. We weren't created (or didn't evolve) on a planet with cheeseburger trees and soda bushes

    And fried chicken patches

Well--I guess my question is--Water ZERO calories--diet soda--ZERO calories--so how does it make people gain weight?

Are they including the whopper and french fries that went with the diet soda--LOL

My vote is live your life the way you want and try to enjoy the things that make you feel good. If you like to eat 5 happy meals a day, then more power to you. It might kill you by the time you turn 50 but thats the chance you take. You can also count every calorie and jog 3 miles a day and drop dead of a heart attack just the same. Most things that say "diet" or "0 trans fat" and things like that, doesn't always mean its good or better for you. Most things like that are marketing schemes to entice you to buy them anyway. For every positive attribute to a product theres usually an equal or greater negative attribute.

I dunno, i just hate diet drinks, but i thought they were better than normal coke, and other forms of thing called coke that you have other names for Speak.
Aw, Trav...why'd ya have to go and bring that up???? We know it's all cokes no matter what that damn Yankee calls it!

That said, I don't do diet cokes at all and seldom drink any coke other than a Co-Cola every blue moon. I just picked up four 12 packs of Coke Zero for my friend tonight...he told me it tastes like Coke but he lied...it's nasty.

People think I'm kidding when I say that I don't drink water but it's true, the most I've drank in the past 10 years is probably no more than three gallons. But I drink at least a half gallon of sweet tea daily which means I'm consuming one cup of cane sugar a day but I'm still not fat and I'm healthy. The bad thing is that my first child weighed 9 lbs. 12 oz. (I was 90 lbs. when I got pregnant) and my paternal grandfather had diabetes which means I'm at a higher risk to become a diabetic. They may as well put me in the ground if that happens because I'll die of dehydration.

That's just dumb - sorry had to say it.

It's dumb to "abandon the world" simply because you were too stubborn to give up sugar ... even though there's a good chance it will lead to insulin resitance and maybe even diabetes.

There are probably people that would miss you and ... wonder why you thought sugar was more valuable than they were to you.

Just some things to think about.

That's true for the most part.

The best things for us to eat are completely natural. I'm not saying you shouldn't cook or use seasoning(s) but ... packaged, packed and boxed stuff is usually non-food food

Ditto--our number one health concern today is type 2 diabettes brought on by obesity. I think 60% of Americans are considered overweight today. Another study shows that an 8 year old today--is approximately 10 pounds heavier than an 8 year old in the 1950's.

Everyone trots out this whole '60% overweight' thing, but I'm of the opinion that a man should be overweight by those standards. A six foot tall man should weigh 185, which is overweight by the standards. Then again, a six foot man weighing 140 is apparently perfectly healthy.

That's one of my pet peeves about the south. Why is it always sweet tea rather than just regular tea as soon as you go south of the Ohio river?

You cross the river and all you hear from waitresses is....

    Some sweet tea?

Would you like some sweet tea?

    Sweet tea?

Some grits? (WTF is a "grit" anyways?)

    sweet tea?

    Sweet tea?

And while I think having a charming southern belle waitress calling me "sweetie" all the time is kinda neat, I still don't like sugar in my iced tea. I like ice, water and tea in my iced tea. Nothing more, nothing less. (except maybe a twist of lemon if it's egg water).

    [/Yankee rant]

Aw, sweetie, down here we just love our sweet tea! But we do have packets of "pink sugar" on the table for those who want "unsweet tea".

It's "grits"...never singular. Grits are coarsely ground corn and the best way to eat them is with salt and lots of butter though some put cheese on them. They're delicious!

My risk factor for diabetes would be much higher if I was overweight and led a sedentary lifestyle but I'm not overweight and I'm very active, especially for a 50 year old woman. While I was only joking about being put in the ground, it would be very hard for me to give up sweet tea because I've been drinking it since I was a baby. I could give up candy with no problem since I don't eat it that often anyway...same with cake, donuts, etc. but the tea....hopefully I'll NEVER have to give it up!
