Public discussion about the civil war which ravaged Spain from 1936-39 and its aftermath has been rare , since the transition to democracy after Francos death in 1975 also included the "pact of silence". Former Franco supporters and their enemies who came back from exile, prison or underground thirty years ago and rebuilt the democratic parties had commited themselves not to mention the painful past in public discourses or political life.
And now the opening of minds, archives and memories is painful...
