The Soviet imperial system
The Soviet imperial system consisted of several political levels:
1 - a core (the Russian SFSR) 2 - an internal empire (Ukrainian SSR etc. and various autonomous republics, oblasti etc.) 3 - an external empire (Warzaw Pact countries, Cuba, Vietnam) 4 - "sotsorientatsiya" (socialist oriented 3rd world countries, e.g. Angola, Nicaragua, Yemen) 5 - geopolitical allies without Marxist governments 6 - countries shifting between the two blocs (e.g. Egypt) Has anyone seen a map that captures these features? Or, alternatively, does anyone have the exact list of countries included in the Soviet bloc? In case anyone's interested, it's for a seminar. Thanks. |
