Re: NORTH or SOUTH
I'd do what most people did in my area back then...make money selling shit to both sides.
![]() I do have a relative who was a horse handler for the South. Alstophius Lang, I believe his name was. But, I think he lived in Southern Virginia/North Carolina.

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
Well, I have a few ancestors who fought for the confederacy, two who ended up in Union Prisons, one of them being Elmira Prison, cant remember the other one.
As for me, I'll be selling things with Speakeasy. BTW - Speakeasy, do you mean to tell me you have resistance blood in you? *makes a mental note* ![]()

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
Yeah, there's a lot of Confederate blood in my family, too.
Too bad I'd have to kill them.

Definitely the confederacy. Robert E. Lee is a dreamboat.

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
Yea, but Stonewall Jackson is totally annoying. At least, if he's anything like how he was depicted in Gods And Generals.

From my dad's side, yea. Everyone from my mom's side was still chillin' in Germany at the time.

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
Tough call. Slavery is wrong. But legally, the South is in the right. But the North is much better positioned to win. I think I'd do my best to sit it out. If not, I'm not sure the South would have me or want me, given that I'm from Illinois and sound like it.

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
Well, if the Civil War were today, I would support the North.
However, my family was decidedly not here yet at the time.

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
Quote:
There are one major cause in favour of each side. The States of the Confederacy had the sovereign right to leave the Union. However, the States of the Union were correct in condemning the slavery of the South. Over all, I would favour States' rights, especially if hearing Abe Lincoln talking about "one nation, undivided". However, if living in the North, I would not want to wage war against my own State but would try to stay out of the war. Maybe I would move north, to Canada (where they know how to spell and have a monarch as Head of StateIf living in my own home country, I would not necessarily take sides at all.

Re: NORTH or SOUTH
My father's side came from Ireland to Canada. My great great grandfather fought in the Spanish American war. My father was born in Manhatten.
My mother's side were among the first to come to America from England. Her family is all from the outer banks, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. My great great grandmother's house on the beach got dragged out to sea in a big storm. I grew up in New Jersey. I'm against slavery. I'd fight for the north, even though I have ancestors on both sides. |

To do otherwise would be to approve and support human slavery and that would be a stain on the family honor. |
