Re: Studying history as a kid
When WE'RE ancient what will WE be ?
The ancient techs ? The ancient age of ignorant and barbarically applied science ? Something else ? What would you propose we might be ?

The answer would, I believe, vary depending upon how far into the future you would get. I would say that some millenia from now, our time is looked upon as one of the final centuries of the pre-starflight ages.

Re: Studying history as a kid
What is very strange in Scandinavian history is that it does not discuss about times 2000 - 3000 years before present. The problem is that during that time there were no Sweds in Sweden in its present sence. There were only original Europeans speaking Finnish. Actually, the language change is still continuing - the whole N Sweden speaks still Finnish. The Scandinavian should be more interested in the original Europeans ... it is most likely that the people of Scandinavia are genetically more original Europeans than Indo-European (even if the language has changed).

And forgeiners tend to think us as Vikings, every year I educate forgein students about our ancient history and our true origins. It great fun to stand on top of the Aulanko tower and show old places from there. On the topic; Medieval times get just barely more points than Classical era of ancient history. I practise all manner of medieval weapons and participate fairs every year.(also have read history all my life, every suit of armor, every blade I see sparks out question why? Why this shape, what function and how.)

Re: Studying history as a kid
I picked Dawn of civilization. But what I remember most about history in the public schools is how bad it was. When I got to high school and started reading real history books on my own I actually got very angry over how bad our history classes were. Being young and hot headed I immediately jumped to the conclusion that the schools were more interested in pounding home a sanitized pro American version of world and American history that in teaching the real thing.

Re: Studying history as a kid
For me i hated history as a kid but i was generally quite good at it...my favorite was studying the Tudor and Stuart times and then after that would probably bethe French revolution; but that's only due to my personal pleasure in watch French heads roll....

Re: Studying history as a kid
I was big on Greek history when I was a kid. But, like anything else you don't practice regularly, I've forgotten almost all of what I learned.
I only remember Greek as a distasteful sex act, but that may have been something else entirely.
