Hunt continues for Nazi treasure

Hunt continues for Nazi treasure - Yahoo! News

DEUTSCHKATHARINENBERG, Germany - German treasure hunters were to begin digging Tuesday for what they claim to be plunder buried by the Nazis in a man-made cavern near the Czech border.

The area's mayor, Hans-Peter Haustein, and a man who found the coordinates for the buried booty in a notebook among his deceased father's belongings, maintain that a scan of the spot has revealed that a large quantity of metal is about 20 yards below the surface. They believe it to be either gold or silver, based on the scan with a sophisticated metal detector

If this turns out to be true, who gets the money?

they'll check the provenance of what art they can distinguish...if its fungibles....good question....they'll probably try and run down the person who deposited it there, if possible, who he was, who he offed...maybe look for their families etc..

Not if it's a nazi treasure. Maybe it will go to the landowner.

Goering had quite a collection didn't he? I had to guard his scepter a few times in the army. The man had a lot of bling.

I would not be surprised if the Federal German government would lay claim to any treasure found.

A German lawyer ought to be able to investigate the legal rules concerned.

That would be problematic, considering Germany liberally stole from all the nations it occupied.
