Re: Historical Places

The Zugspitze, highest peak in Germany. I am scared shitless of heights, so this place was a bit of a problem for me.

Re: Historical Places

Finally, the Theresienwiese. This is the festival grounds where Oktoberfest takes place. Snapped this picture of the Theresienwiese during Oktoberfest. IIRC, this was a Tuesday night, and one of the least busy. Beer tents are on the left.

Re: Historical Places

And hence this IS about historical places; Location where Finnish army halted the Soviet onslaught, Summer offensive of 1944.
-Place is called Tali-Ihantala.

This is where the largest battle in the history of Nordic lands was fought.

As it was during the battle, there is next to nothing else save huge boulders and open grass-fields.

Trier is a beautiful city.

So is Luxembourg City. And the people of Luxembourg, at least during Patton Days, are the friendliest people I ever met anywhere as an American.

Are you Ecuadorian?

My wife is, we'll be heading down to Quito in May. It'll be my first trip but she grew up there and still has a bunch of family.

Other than these things what else would you recomend as far as historic sites go? Anything worth visiting?

Kinda off topic but: We were researching airfare the other day for the trip and found tickets for $380 round trip. We decided to hold off till the following day to pick them up because they were so cheap she though that maybe her parents would want to go too, in which case we'd get 5 tix.

By the following day the prices had shot up $250. Crazy. (Note: this all occured post-financial system meltdown so I can't imagine what could have effecte fare that drastically in less than 24 hours.)

I'm Colombian. Well, my dad is, I was born here in the states. I spent the summer working in Ecuador with friends of a friend of my dad. Old Quito is gorgeous (I think it's a UNESCO site?), full of churches and all sorts of things. Probably one of Ecuador's main attractions is the natural beauty, the mountains, the jungle, the galapagos, etc.

I didn't spend a lot of time touristing though. It's not really my thing anyway. *shrug*

Plane tickets are more fickle than women!

Luxembourgers have actually a reputation of beeing slightly rude , but maybe this has only come up in the last couple of decades and towards our geographical neighbours.
You were seriously there in or shortly after WW II ?
