Re: The A Bombs Of Japan: necessary ???

I'm wondering what all this innane discussion of test bombs is all about. As parallel research on the process for enriching uranium was being conducted at the same time research on developing the bomb was done, any and all weapons-grade material was at a premium. We simply didn't have material to keep building 'test bombs'. What silliness.

Now we're looking at personal attacks huh? Calm down man. I was refering to the fact that you're older than 60. 2008 - 60 = 1948.

For the future leave out that kind of name calling unless you want your posts reported.

They had no means to rearm. Japan's resources were exhausted, their access to any outside resources were cut off. (the whole reason they expanded in the first place was to acquire resources for their military) Sorry to use reality to demolish yet another short sighted claim.

Manchuria had already been taken by the Soviets. nice try, once again. sorry reality does not agree with you.

We took it seriously, by reducing them to their pre-war status. enough blood had already been spilled.

At the time in question (dropping of the bomb) germany was out of the picture. sorry if i stay with reality on this one. Japan had no ability to militarize without access to outside resources (which is why they expanded to begin with) so you are failing to make sense.

Their word is useless here. They had no ability to remilitarize without access to overseas resources, which they could not do without a navy, and they need access to overseas resources to build a navy!

So, here in all practical purposes they were defeated, just not technically because they would not surrender. So you are supporting the vaporization of human life (humans who were under the grip of totalitarianism) over a technicality?

once again, you are demonstrating that you cannot understand this issue outside of the faulty false dilemma (drop bomb or invade)

i am suggesting that neither was necessary. you cannot understand that because you have let ignorance define your view of possibilities here.

save your self righteousness and high and mightiness for your vet meetings.

yes... did not they come to their senses after the dropping of the bombs?

whose to say they would not come to their senses after a year passed and they realized they were still cornered, still denied the ability to pursue their ambition?

But, since truman wanted to begin the cold war, we will never know.

keep worshiping the vaporization of human life if it fits into your national mythology.

Right. You are suggesting starving millions of Japanese to death as an alternative. I wonder if the Japanese would have appreciated such generosity from you.
