In my opinion, the United States by far is the most indebted to scientists for the standard of living that it enjoys, for the weapons systems that gave it the edge throughout its history, for the luxuries and conveniences that its citizenry enjoys, for the average longevity that has increased significantly, for the safety enhancements in everything from automobiles to food, and for the entertainment and intellectual fulfillment provided by discoveries in fields like astronomy, biology, and many others. On the other hand, athletes generally only provide entertainment.
Therefore, I find the scorn that scientists receive in this country, combined with the fawning admiration heaped upon atheletes, to be quite perplexing. Share your thoughts on who has contributed more, and on why things are the way that they are regarding the respect.

I would make the case for the average guy. The farmer, the shop keeper, the assembly line guy. These are the folks that gave us America, including our scientists, our athletes, and our beauty queens.

as you walk away, he will soon be quietly sitting behind his bars again
and licking his own feces off his fingers as you carry on with your day."
errr..... Dick..... errr... you didn't mention the wives who stood by their husbands every step of the way.
