Re: Peace

Personally, I prefer the song by the Beatles, 'Let it Be'.

So, my question isn't 'can we avoid nuking each other'. It's 'can we stop the killing'? Can we stop the wars, the murders, the hatred of each other? We are all the same, aren't we?

Whoever 'they' are...they're human. Just like you and I. They may be raised with different ideas or ideals, but they are worth the same as you and I. Life is worth more money than there is in all the world. Buying a life...it's ridiculous. Any attempt to place a value on someone's life isn't just wrong...it is also almost ludicrously under priced. How long will it take humanity to realize this?

Okay, I am really getting pretty annoyed by the lack of ability to edit your stuff. I'm on a time budget almost 24/7. Anyways, back to what I was trying to say: why are we unable to see past...ourselves, past our friends, past our country? I may disagree with you, but that doesn't mean you aren't human.

Re: Peace

I don't remember having been in a state of war at any time in my life. I don't understand this thread. It looks like you're saying humanity has never known peace, but entire generations have lived and died in peace.

Hollywood is a very good arguement against that...

Now, I must ask: Why has the call for peace gone unheeded? Why can we not hold each other as equals, and stop the senseless fighting?

Because whenever someone sees a call for peace, they become scared. That's right. We are scared of peace. The sheer idea of it is mind boggling. Instinctually, if we aren't attacking, we're defending. The idea of not attacking...nor defending...seems impossible. We can't concieve that the other side can understand this, even though the 'other side' is made up of human beings, the same as you and I.

It isn't hard to convince people to believe that peace is good; the trouble is getting people to not be afraid of peace. Why fight, when you can love?
Peace is a flawed notion, an idea as fluffy and wonderful as communism is in theory, but that doesn't mean it pans out in reality. Much so for the same reason, human nature. People are greedy, this is what drives us more than anything in the world. Not just greed for money, status, material things but greed over our way of life and the resources that keep that way of life going. As a result you have conflict, and when conflict cannot be solved by compromise it leads to war.

O.o How so? A billion remakes, 20 year old sequels, and only using idea's that are safe to making more money is love? Hollywood is in love all right, they're in love with the all mighty dollar like everyone else.

Not true, peace from wars but not peace from conflict (though then again the battlefield is always rotating). I'm sure people have continued to kill each other throughout entire generations. You don't need a war for people to kill each other. Where conflict exist there cannot be peace, and therefor peace doesn't and can't exist. There can only be the illusion for those who somehow side-stepped conflict either in their life, society, or country.

Perhaps between nations, there has been peace. But why has the message, the idea, not spread? Look at what many imams say about 'foreign devils'. They dehumanize their fellow man. This makes it easier to rationalize action against them. Would such a statement succeed in a place that truly knows peace?
