Funny that living here, I haven’t heard a thing about this.
Do you suppose it's the liberal press censoring your news?

Perhaps they could start by doing something about this: http://www.ang.af.mil/OM/career/images/GA%20FLAG.jpg

They got rid of the more well-known "Stars & Bars" flag back in 2001, but this new flag (adopted in 2003) is based on the first national flag of the Confederacy. But, because most people are ignorant of their history, they're all probably busy sucking one another's dicks over what a great job they did in getting rid of the "Stars & Bars," though this new flag is even more egregious than what flew over this "fine" state just a few years back. . .

IMHO, the blacks aren't for racial harmony.
Maybe where you live things are different but over here, the blacks are the ones promoting racism.
I say no to apologizing, for one it will open the doors to other problems.

I'd rather let a black person tell me that he/she isn't for racial harmony than believe a white guy who has no idea. Perhaps there are whites around you making nigger jokes and putting black people down, but you don't recognise that as promoting racism.

Perhaps you only recognise it when "they" do it, and are blind to it when "we" do it?

A formal, official apology is a public statement of renouncement of a formerly legal policy that hurt tens of thousands of people, and is a reasonable thing to do.

We as a nation and we as a race need to look at our past behavior, acknowledge our mistakes and transgressions; doing so publicly and officially sends a message to all that even though our forefathers did those things, we of today know that they were wrong and do not intend to follow in their footsteps. A formal apology by the Georgia government would serve notice on all the KKK members and closet racists and their families that racism is wrong and that it is officially unacceptable in Georgia.
I guess all former slave states should do the same. Know what? It won't make a shit of difference in anything.

I figured it had to be a joke. Normally, you're much more rational. . .

No, I've seen it on both sides but I have meet many blacks that are racist and have seen them tell other black why they are talking to a white man (me).

Well, my ancestors didn't own slaves. My family didn't come to the United States until 1878.

That notwithstanding, though, what's the point in apologizing? to make someone "feel" better? Fuck that. Having "nothing to lose" is hardly a compelling reason.

Tell you what, Sam, why not pump out some apology letters and send them to every black person you can find. If you're so concerned about an apology, step up to the plate and fucking do it yourself.

The fact is that there's absolutely nothing to apologize for, and nobody to apologize to. Nobody who's alive today owned as slave, and nobody who was a slave is alive today.

At best, it's an empty gesture which means absolutely nothing...

And just because some black people are racist, it doesn't make it right or OK. Apologizing for slavery isn't a bad idea. People who are against it are wasting our tax dollars fighting on the wrong side of right and wrong.

A state that promoted slavery should have apologized for it a few decades ago. It can only do good for the state to officially say they are sorry for the wrong they've done.

I'll agree with that, I don't care if tax dollars are wasted or not when it comes to States correcting mistakes.....Hell, they'll just waste the money anyways.

No, the States should have apologized years ago. Doing it now means nothing IMO except maybe a way for the blacks to use it for more excuse for themselves.

Do you know where the race riots were in the past? The last five race riots took place in N.Y., L.A., Cincinnati, Seattle and Miami. There'll always be racial disharmony as long as you have the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, etc. fueling the fire. There's too many folks like them and not enough like Bill Cosby preaching personal responsibility.
As for achieving racial harmony, yeah, there's plenty of areas where blacks and white live side by side in harmony. Slidell, Louisiana is one of them.
