Have you and Slon noticed that about 50% of your taxes is used to profit the industrial/military complex? It is ever thus with empires, spending to keep it far exceeds its usefulness. Also, those who do fatten on the spoils of empire, tend to spend those spoils on more and more expensive 'toys'. With the Roman Empire it is accept that the toys came mostly from China and the east

How ironic that the Empire of the United States is now borrowing money from China and the east to finance its empire!!
