What is so SUPREME about being white? Most of those espousing the "white power" belief are ugly hicks and have such a severe southern drawl, you'de think they were from a different country.

Anyway, the term SUPREMECY makes me think that people calling themselves supremecists believe they are better than someone else. Where the hell does this "i'm better than you because i'm white/black/latino/yellow" come from ?

Isnt there some mental disorder the APA (american psychological association) can understand that gives people this bloated sense of themselves? Why are the supremecists not understood to be narccissists (sp) or something?

I just think there is some mental defect when you think your skin color makes you better than someone else.

I don't know that it's a mental defect per se... It seems like it's the extension of the mentality that says we are better than lower animals, just a lot less legitimate, imho.

This is a question of nature vs. nurture, and I believe that hatred such as this is instilled by parents. Perhaps it does develop into a mental defect, but I don't believe it's a trait acquired genetically.

It is kind of funny that the white people that consider whites to be superior are the ones the rest of us like to pretend do not exist. I live 20 miles from a county that is notorious for having a racist culture and most black people around here know not to make any long stops in it.

I think that perhaps the one good thing George W. Bush has done is once and for all laid to rest the claim of white supremacy.

I think it is universal in humans. As birds of a feather flock together, it sets divisions between family/clan/tribe/people. There is "our people" and there is "those people". Everybody wants to think they are the best.

As a society we had to learn to be tolerant and look past the superficial.

I think by supremists they mean they think white people should be supreme in the society. I guess they believe white people are somehow better than them, but I don't see how this claim without evidence is much different from that of religions. The white supremists often looks 'upwards' for justice in their beliefs. I can't imagine how atheists could defend themselves if they were white supremists.

All it takes is a bit of insecurity. Funny enough, the feeling of superiority is often produced by a feeling of inferiority. In that regard (and a few others) it might look comparable to religion but the two things are very different. There's no difference between the atheist's and theist's ability to end up in an illusion of racial supremacy. However, as you say, they may justify their tendencies differently but that's just part of keeping the illusion going. It's not the illusion itself.

The irony of the misspelling of the thread title is partularly amusing and suggestive of the silliness of the idea itself.

You'd think that if white people were truly supreme, they wouldn't misspell thread titles like that.

whites are familiar with their culture. they are indifferent and confused about other culutres. therefore they cling to theirs...

...which goes for pretty much every other culture aswell, that's why we have ghetto's. And I'd say, black people are actually worse, just look throughout history. Black people started rock'n'roll/blues/jazz/Rythm & blues, and there's few black people to see in those genres (mainly oldies, but still lots in NO music) now, and rock is almost all 'white'. White people have embraced reggae, and lots of white people listen to/do rap. However, I don't see many black people in the black/death/heavy metal/'headbanger' culture, not punk either. I think white people have embraced black music much more so than black people have embraced white.

Now, music isn't the only scale where these things are measured, but it's an example. I think white supremists are grudge that are inherited from the confederacy, and that got some new fire when Hitler came along.
