Lightbulb An Idea

I had a thought...

On this thread, name people that you think did great things for the American People...

Re: An Idea

Asher, this is not a bad idea at all.

Hope you don't mind non-Americans taking part in your poll.

There are lots of Americans who have done great things for America, I think.

Martin Luther King, Frederic Douglas, W.E. Dubois, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Thomas Paine, John Steinbeck, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Albert Sabin, Paul Robeson, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger...so many others. I will need to put my thinking cap on.

One man whom I think I would like to add to this short list is S. Brian Wilson.

S. Brian Willson is a Vietnam veteran who in 1987 had his legs cut off at Concord, California, while protesting a Naval train carrying weapons headed for Central America.

Re: An Idea

Well there's the usual founding fathers (Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison...) then Lincoln, both Roosevelt's, Eisenhower, and Regan to do a brief cover of the presidents.

Others: Daniel Webster, Martin Luther King Jr., I would need more time cause there are so many more

And in my opinion the non-American we all owe a great debt of thanks to is King George III. Had he not been so stubborn we might not be Americans thanks George : )

Sorry, but Reagan does not belong in that ***** list.

Eisenhower as a General yes, but certainly not as a president.

Re: An Idea

I agree, Reagan belongs nowhere on a list of great Americans.

I would say that most politicians don't, actually.

haha I knew Regan would catch some flack. I'm a conservative so i happen to like Regan a lot. Yes he did some bad things, but some great things were also done.

If we rule out politicians that's fine, but i had heard no such rule yet.

Re: An Idea

ill play the devils advocate...

if you enjoy america, and its prosperity, you must thank Andrew Jackson and other 19th century presidents and state governors for getting those pesky native americans out of the american lebensraum. i have read that Jackson collected body parts from natives as trophies.

Re: An Idea

Your not an advocate. You are the devil. "Pesky native Americans?"

But see this thread is about American heritage not your "Nazi lebensraum".

You might try the Imus thread, the Supremists defending him will enjoy your humor.

I popped in to read it, Asher.

It’s very good, and I like that the site is easy to navigate.

I agree with your nomination for favourite Democratic Party candidate, Barack Obama.

But, back to the question at hand….

To the names I mentioned before, I would like to add Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. His vision of the future was far-sighted and inspiring.
