Anger Towards Falwell and other Christian charlatans justified

Hitchens makes no apologies for his opinion on Falwell and I'm with him on it.

Crooks and Liars » Hitchens slams Falwell’s life

He says everything that I feel and I'm glad he's saying it. We all respect the dead, we all respect the surviving family, but it doesn't mean we zip up about it because he died.

He was a horrible person and Hitchens explains what Falwell was about.

I agree 100% that Falwell was a conscious charlatan.

I also agree with his statement about how these fakers are given instant credibility and how dangerous it is and how Falwell was a prime example of it.

I disagree with Hitchens take on the war, but when it comes to Falwell, my thoughts almost mirror his.

Goodbye Falwell, you cheap dirty crook.

No, it doesn't.

But there's been little respect shown for the dead from the libs here. In its' place, there's been nothing but vitriol and hate...

Alls well that Fallwell. Now those teletubbies can have a coming out party. or whatever. I guess alls left is Osama bin Laden to wish pain and evil on the liberal west. Falwell has always been wrong. His legacy knows no other meaning. Does it? Show me good things. Maybe i'll look for his headstone sometime.

Re: Anger Towards Falwell and other Christian charlatans justified

While I'm absolutely no fan of this man I think we should focus on the living. Just because he would slam the dead such as when he said things like AIDS is a punishment for sin I think we should prove that we are better than that. That may sound like moral high ground crap but some times it's nice to concentrate on being moral. Since Pat Robertson is still alive lets put our energy towards giving him hell.

Hitchens is allways a pleasure to read and it seems, that he has more morality than Farwall and other religious lunantics.

Re: Anger Towards Falwell and other Christian charlatans justified

Falwell doesn't even deserve a footnote in history. He'll get it but only due to his use of religion in politics in the US, a cautionary footnote at that.

Correction, to assume makes an ass out of u and me, ie ass-u-me. It's amazing how many things you choose to ignore when trying to make a point.

Re: Anger Towards Falwell and other Christian charlatans justified

I completely agree with Hitchens on this one. Fraudulant old men preaching hate to children is not a great legacy. People should be judged based on their actions and their words and Falwell acted with hatred and ignorance in both these respects.
