Re: Experience at the Simpsons movie. Is this racist?

It is obvious that some people crave attention and they act boisterously to get it. Like a child crying.

I gave a few examples of this form of ego-centric expression from a select group of different sub-cultures.

But the movie theater example is definitely offensive.

So it begs the question, if someone of a different race offends you in a way that is more unique to their culture, does that make you racist for being offended?

I only ask because I think there are a lot of people who want to label others as racist, and they just need any excuse.

Yep. IMO
If you see the race over the action, and you react to the race not the action, it seems to me that you make an issue of the race...not the action.
But thats my opinion and you did ask.

So for example, when "African-Americans" say white people can't dance then they are being racist.

But society seems to think negative generalizations like that are harmless and amusing.

There seems to be a double standard.

Sure.
One time, at a dance, none of the black kids would dance with me and they all circled around and yelled at me "YOU CAN'T DANCE, YOU'RE WHITE!"

I'm kidding of course.

Where's the double standard? I don't think you were being funny were you?

The double standard is that racism is only considered to be offensive when white people do it.

Re: Experience at the Simpsons movie. Is this racist?

In my opinon it is most certainly a "ghetto" cultural thing. The profile isn't limited to white or black or even rich or poor. It is a culture of people who are too stupid to think for themselves. It is a culture where people are encouraged to disrespect other people. It is a culture where females are called whore, ho, and bitch, and men are only real men if they act like assholes and are willing to have sex with every woman they come across. This culture is perpetuated by a "me" centered society. Selflessness is the root of evil and the downfall of civilizations.

I agree.

That may be your opinion but you can't apply that to me.

Ok, sorry for not clarifying what is generally understood.

I was talking about the double standards of society in general.

If it makes anyone feel better, I also find it annoying when some redneck pulls up in his oversized and loud pick up truck and just leaves it running while he gets out and does something else. I have experienced that so many times and I don't get it. Maybe there is some mechanical explanation for why they can not turn the engine off, but I get the feeling they are just like "I am ford tough man and I am gonna leave it runnin' so everybody has to listen to my truck, because that is what real men do"

And then there are those idiots who modify their exhaust pipes on their little econo cars. You can hear them almost red-line from a mile away but they have only moved about 10 feet. It's really pathetic.

I just find loud people to be very irritating. Who doesn't?
I was once made fun of in a Tennessee McDonald's over my hair by a group of rednecks (who looked to be laborers). This was in or near McNary county.

I then determined that I would never live in a place that was sans University.

The other moral of the story is that I find the hardcore redneck culture even MORE disconcerting than "ghetto" culture.

I'm used to "ghetto" culture, and that's probably why.

I have had similiar experiences. It's mind boggling how some slack jawed yokels act like high-society snobs.

To me the worst was meeting somebody from Boston who had the most god awful accent and having them tell me that I don't sound like I am from Texas. (which is code for: you don't sound like the idiot that I think you are) I am actually from Houston, but to some people it is all cowboys and tumbleweeds.

So I understand when an African-American gets offended when he is told that he articulates well.

I understood what you were saying. Just wanted to be clear that I don't think it's OK to go along with what is generally understood.
I think thats part of the problem.
