The 'end of days' anxiety isn't a particularly religious concept. If we could avoid worrying about what stands behind the next tree or what lies beyond the next hill and thus weren't able to expect and deal with the unexpected, we probably wouldn't even be here. So, on the contrary, that precise anxiety is more likely to be held accountable for religion itself.

You must recognize the latin root of the word. Damn close to the french word for the same.

In the time of the Roman Empire, and according to the Roman calendar (used until it was replaced by the Gregorian one in the 16th century, September originated as the seventh month and is named accordingly.

(cf. Oct-ober, Nov-ember and Dec-ember).
