The Science of Prophecy.

Quote:
Nostradamus' preponderance of bleak and horrid prophecies sometimes have the effect of causing people to adopt an attitude of resigned nihilism or fatalism. "What's the use?" But this is precisely the
mental attitude that he was fervently attacking. The earth
history-flow has a kind of "inertia" that he learned to read through
his highly refined and developed mental concentration. If we continue
on our present path, i.e. the "course of least resistance", the worst
of the horrible, apocaplyptic visions will be realized. But through
focused thought and determination the most severe scenarios can be
avoided.

In the D.Cannon book Nostradamus repeatedly emphasizes the urgency of
his mission and his frustration with man's apathy in the face of his
predictions. In one channeling, the subject said that "his psychic
abilities are so profound and developed that had he lived in other
times he might have been revered almost as a God, but in the
Inquisition his talent was wasted." Nostradamus was something like a
psychoanalyst for the entire human race, and was quite frustrated
with his patient's continual tendency to sabotage and destroy
himself in spite of the doctor's--literally--divinely inspired
advice. http://faqs.org/faqs/nostradamus/part1/
Oh big whoop right? why should anyone take prophecy seriously? well why not? If one takes a look at the respected prophets throughtout history we wil find something rather interesting.

They all say essentially the same things...

Quote:
7) The following prophecy was found at the end of the 19th century in the library of Monastery Neamt, in Romania. It is supposed that the prophecy was written in the 14th century.

"Unknown diseases and plagues will accompany the end of the Millennium, because the last beast will liberate gold and poison... and the gold will produce despair, while the poison will produce death. In the time of the seventh seal, the earth will be an abandoned factory of poisons. And the few wise men that will remain, will not be able to make another thing but to invoke the anger of God, so that the impious beast which will have destroyed the life be destroyed".
not that impressed? ok lets try others..

Quote:
Maria Laach, German religious woman, who did several prophecies in the 16th century:

"The 20th century will bring death and destruction, apostasy of the Church, discord in the families, cities and governments; it will be the century of three great wars with intervals of some decades. They will turn more devastating and bloody and they will leave in ruins not only Germany, but all the countries of the Est and West. (...) After a great defeat of Germany, a great war will come. There won't be bread for the people and food for animals. Poisonous clouds, created by human hands, will lower and will exterminate everything. The human mind will be taken by madness."
three great wars, one after the other. apostasy of the church. a defeat of germany in the second war. we are only just leaving the 20 century.

Quote:
9) At his time, Stormberger was well-known for his prophecies. Several Austrian specialists of prophecies from the area of Bavaria documented his prophecies, but the books containing his writings were condemned by the Nazists and were burned, because they foresaw Hitler's defeat, who was interested in prophecies. But fragments telling that he foresaw the invention of cars, trains and airplanes survived. He said with precision the day that the First World War would begin, its duration, the weapons. He predicted the Great Depression in 1929, the Third Reich, the Second World War, the Swastika, the defeat and the division of Germany etc. He also said that there would be three world wars in the 20th century:

"Two or three decades after the first war it will come one a Second War still larger. Almost all the nations of the world will be involved. Millions of men will die, without being soldiers. The fire will fall from the sky and many great cities will be destroyed. And after the end of the Second Great War, a third universal conflagration will come, so that it will determine everything. There will be weapons totally new. In one day, more men will die than in all the previous wars. The battles will be accomplished with artificial weapons (chemical bombs). Gigantic catastrophes will happen. With the open eyes, the nations of the planet will go through these catastrophes. They won't know what is happening, and those that know and tell, will be silenced. Everything will be different from before, and in many places the Earth will be a great cemetery. The third war will be the end of many nations".
Quote:
11) It is believed that the following prophecy, found in Monastery of Sainte Claire, Perpignan, in France, is from the 14th century. It was attributed by some to Abbot Reymond. The text is divided in five parts, each part prophesying about a century of the last five of the millennium. Here is a text from the last part:

"For stranger than the last times may seem, the last century of the millennium will overcome all the others. It will be similar to one car that moves with difficulty, guided by unable and servants of Satan. In that period of terror, there will be great spiritual poverty. (...) Many kings will lose the throne and some kings will recover the throne. A war will begin. (first war). After, another war comes. (second war) and so another war. (third war) From the sky the hell will fall. In the anguish of a bad life, the man will finish poisoning everything. (chemical bombs) Poisoned clouds will cover the earth. Monstrous machines will dominate the skies. (planes with bombs) The fire will destroy many cities. The men will finish destroying each other ".
Quote:
2) German medieval prophecy:

"Actually you will be happy, and after the darkness it will be seen the light, because before the year 2000, the Beast and the Prostitute will be thrown in the abyss. Never again they will leave there and the Sign of the Cross will shine in the glory of the light, with one faith and one shepherd. Oh! Oh! Where the rivers Rhine and Mosela meet, a very bloody battle will be joined against the Turks (Muslims) and Russians, so that the Rhine will blush for 25 leagues".
there is more and more. but one must understand that though the themes may be the same. the precision is not. This is in part do to our free will. Mankind does have the power to change his fate however to ignore this will lead to disaster. Prophecy is among the ultimate proofs of Gods existance. But you must understand that prophecies can fail, God is omnipotent yet every single tiny decision we make can collectively alter the fate of the man.

Anyone with a practical mind can see that a great war is coming. and this will involve all the horrors of modernwarfare. The momentum of Arab propaganda and our sins has brought it to be.

It is predicted among sources that there indeed may be an over throw of government by christian extremists. Understand Religion is about spirtuality, philosphy, its about attempting to understand the world around you.. opening your heart for wisdom for acceptance.. .its not about rote memorization of texts, nor is it about issueing hateful condemnations. I know I have done my share of baiting and angry out bursts and I apologise. I think this is the way.

Re: The Science of Prophecy.

Quote:
Stormberger was a remarkable 19th Century Bavarian seer who was able to visualize with great accuracy the events that would take place in the 20th Century. The third world war will be the most catastrophic war to hit mankind this century:

"When in the outskirts of the forest the iron road will be finished, and there the iron horse will be seen, a war will begin, to last twice two years ...

It would be fought with iron fortresses that move without horses. Two or three decades after the first war it will come one a Second War still larger.

Almost all the nations of the world will be involved. Millions of men will die, without being soldiers. The fire will fall from the sky and many great cities will be destroyed. And after the end of the Second Great War, a third universal conflagration will come, so that it will determine everything.

Gigantic catastrophes will happen. With the open eyes, the nations of the planet will go through these catastrophes. They won't know what is happening, and those that know and tell, will be silenced. Everything will be different from before, and in many places the
Earth will be a great cemetery.

The third war will be the end of many nations".
I just love the visual 19th century interpetation of armored tanks.

Re: The Science of Prophecy.

You do realize that, statistically speaking, if hundreds of idiots make vague predictions on the future, several paragraphs are bound to be arguably correct?

Holy hell. There ought to be a law against the abuses in application of the word "science".

Re: The Science of Prophecy.

Ted'
Consider, if prophecy (or any other crazy joojoo mumbo jumbo), had any merit at all, how important and beneficial - not to mention profitable! - it would be and therefore, how thoroughly studied, tested, subjected to the rigors of real science they would be?

Yet they remain relegated to circus tents and strip malls next to the adult video store.

Re: The Science of Prophecy.

In every prophecy there is a theme, combining them all as I have been doing lately..since my discovery of Islam prophecy Mirroring Biblical.. I have come to a starting conclusion..

three great wars one following the other every few decades all occuring in the 20th century. After the first great war, there will be a larger great war. Germany will be the agressor led by a man 'hister'. Monstrous machines will dominate the skies, with iron fortresses that move without horses. and fire will fall from the sky and many great cities will be destroyed.
Millions of men will die, without being soldiers.

And after the end of the Second Great War, a third universal conflagration will come, so that it will determine everything.

If this is not a series of startling medieval descriptions of the second world war... then what is it?

I have discovered all prophecies lead the same conclusion, Prophets are time tested they are proven worthy to listen to because of either previous prophecies they made came true.. or they had some incredible ability to guess peoples names, read minds know what thier problems are, or have a gift of healing people.. and usually its all of the above. And yes there are people like this in modern times, a famous American one is Edgar Cayce.
He is called the sleeping prophet, He would induce himself in a trance like state and people would ask him questions, often about loved ones serving overseas during ww2, but also about horse races aparently he picked the right horse everytime.

Quote:
The monk of Werl, Cologne (1801):

"There will be a terrible war; on one side will be the people who live where the sun rises, on the other all those who live where the sun sets. Russia will send out enormous masses of soldiers and Cossack cavalry. One will fight a long time without decisive result, until finally one comes to the country of the Rhine. There, one will fight so much during three days that the water of the Rhine will be reddened. This war will come when there is general contempt for religion. When nobody wants to obey any more, when one cannot distinguish the rich person from the poor, when the people give up themselves entirely to sensual pleasures, when iniquity reaches its climax believe that this time is close. What follows this battle: Peace will be returned to you, Germany; France will recover its king; the shepherd will bring the flock to its fold."
Quote:
A Sister of Queen Brigite Order, Rome (published in 1970)

"The Third World War will begin a few days after the murder of a leader in the sector of Yugoslavia-Hungary."
Quote:
PRE-COLOMBIAN HOPI PROPHECIES

"Before the time of the great Purification, they will make metal roads for iron horses and hang metal ropes in the air." (sounds like suspension bridges like the golden gate)
"First they will bring back pieces of the Moon which will upset the balance and unleash disastrous forces."

"Near the day of the Great Purification, there will be cobwebs spun back and forth in the sky." I see radio waves, signal beams sending to satelites and back to earth, cell phone towers, etc.

"The Purification will begin shortly after humans build a great house in the sky.space station? By then there will be fires everywhere and greedy, selfish, power-mad leaders, internal wars."

I have collected a series of prophecies and put them togethor. They say the same things. First a great king of persia will come, and he will be the anti christ, (Hitler was also called an anti christ) He will Be exceedingly bloodthirsty and cunning, he partly unify the east, he will invade turkey and egypt. An alliance of nations will fight him in turkey and he will win (NATO) He will destroy israel. (Not sure yet which comes first, I have a feeling Israel) and then he will Attack with nukes against European cultural and historic sites.. think the vatican the parthenon in greece.

That would be the so-called science of prophesy.

Anyone into discussing the prophesy of science? That might be more interesting.

Re: The Science of Prophecy.

How to become a Prophet....TODAY!
  • Be as vague as possible. This will allow people studying your prophecies to 'fill in the blanks' and twist your words to fit what they want it to fit.
  • Make as many predictions as you can. This will strongly increase the chance that you'll make a correct one.
  • Be sure your prophecies take place in the distant future, this way everyone will be dead before they can see if they pan out.
  • Predict things that will most likely happen, such as war, new technology, dictators, lots of people dying, etc.
  • If a prediction turns out to be wrong, claim that mankind has the ability to change their fate (ignoring the fact that this alone makes all predictions pointless).
  • Only push your prophecies on people that believe in prophecies. Can't have any 'science types' getting in the way of things.

Re: The Science of Prophecy.

To impress me a prophecy has to be specific enough so that we know what it means before it happens and a date, time and location would go a long way to making me a believer.
