Wow - Rev. Wright - the ultimate hypocrite?
The now infamous Rev. Jeremiah Wright - known (before the scandal) as a minister who preached against materialism and "middle-classism" - are you ready for this?
Is building a $11.6 MILLION - 10,000 square foot mansion in an exclusive-gated community in Chicago. This is wrong on so many levels I wouldn't no where to start. Obama’s Former Pastor Builds a Multimillion-Dollar Retirement Home - America’s Election HQ

Yes of course the church (tax free) bought the home...they could have built a 20 unit apt. home for abused women and children - ran 10-15 soup kitchens all across Chicago for this kind of money....instead - they build one man a 10,000 sq. ft mansion in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the city....

This reminds me of Jim Bakker. I wonder if a 6' tall giraffe, gilded in gold, is going into this home.
I hope Wright's wife (if he has one) wears waterproof mascara. And, based on Wright's political rants, tax exempt status should be dropped in a NY minute. |

Re: Wow - Rev. Wright - the ultimate hypocrite?
The man has done so much for the community and every church member knows that when you give to a church you give to the pocketbook of the pastor. Also middle classism is different from being "middle class." It's a state of mind and an attitude. Wright built a church that has a HUGE outreach ministry, that has helped thousands. The more I learn about this church, the more I like it. And the more it proves that the corporate media does nothing but lie. When you build an amazing community service organisation maybe you can start throwing aspertions on this guy. Makes me consider this whole Xtian thing.

And now he tells us that he’s the one who’s gonna take on the old boys' network,” he said. “In the McCain campaign that’s called a staff meeting!- Obama, 9/17/2008 |

I don't see a problem. Making the house and the materials has created jobs and he'll also need to hire someone to keep it tidy. No soup kitchen has such effects.

You really want to go down that road?

Re: Wow - Rev. Wright - the ultimate hypocrite?
I think it's a bad one in the long run. Hit and run would, IMO, be the wiser course on Wright. All this is going to do is draw huge attention to the GOP's Religious Right issue and courtship for which it has long gotten scrutiny and criticism. The election has awhile to go, and going second on return fire usually hits harder.
There is humongous material to fire back. Many of the Pat Robertsons have some nice stuff. Even the Pope, the top guy of 35% of the nation's Christians, likely has the most humongous and opulent bachelor pad out there. All these religious leaders also preach charity, social economic equities, etc. The old saw is that people in glass houses shouldn't cast stones. Just look at Dina Matos McGreevey getting on television waxing indignant about Spitzer's immorality and comparing it to her husband Jim coming out as gay, and what boomeranged back at her about her own 'Saturday Night Specials'. McGreevey aide says he had sexual trysts with ex-governor, wife - Breaking News From New Jersey - NJ.com It never fails--when anyone gets on the stump with a glass house, people will look extra hard and take pleasure knocking them off and such people fall much harder.

How so? A soup kitchen can be built from the ground up, and people are still needed to staff it. Just because they’re typically run out of a church or existing church-owned structure and are manned by volunteers doesn’t mean they have to be.

Perhaps in the long run it's best if they're all knocked down a few pegs.
