Evangelist Rick Warren reaches out to Muslims

Quote:
Defying some of his fellow conservative Christian critics, one of the most prominent religious leaders in the country told several thousand American Muslims on Saturday that "the two largest faiths on the planet" must work together to combat stereotypes and solve global problems.

"Some problems are so big you have to team tackle them," evangelical megachurch pastor Rick Warren addressed the annual convention of the Islamic Society of North America.

Warren said Muslims and Christians should be partners in working to end what he calls "the five global giants" of war, poverty, corruption, disease and illiteracy.

Such an invitation is long overdue. I hope that other Christians will join Pastor Warren in seeking to build bridges between peoples who have not shown much trust in each other. The conflict between Christians and Muslims is largely an artificial separation--as clerics (on both sides) concentrate of religious differences, they ignore the problems which afflict both peoples in common. It is by learning to work together in addressing the woes which afflict the people that they can learn to trust. If (and when) that happens, ll of humankind will benefit.

What in the world is wrong with you? No one in this thread has mentioned President Obama, "jesus freaks," or "allah freaks." That is not what the thread is about. What are you trying to demonstrate? And why?

Obama can believe in what he wishes, as long as he's not a goddam Republican, I don't care.

Generally, televangelists ask that you send them money or the "Islams" will get us. It's unusual to hear one actually doing what Jesus probably would. Just like it's a distinct oddity to hear muslims saying that Allah is the All merciful, loving and beneficent, so it behooves us to be the same, though many do.

Maybe they will prefer the message from Rick as opposed to the same one from the Pope. And the North American ones might jst well.

Unfortunately I on't thnk the ones elsewhere will see the value in it. When your religion IS the government, common sense is seldom followed.

I don't think that Rick Warren's "religion IS the government." In fact, the linked article identifies him as a Southern Baptist.

Good for Rick. I may not agree with some of his theology (or most of it), but he is doing the right thing.

I live in the POOREST county in Tennessee, which also has the highest unemployment (currently 24.6%). Are you just making things up in an attempt at self-justification?

What you are doing is called "baiting," and it involves insulting others in an effort to draw an immoderate reaction. It is against the rules of this forum. I would like to see those rules consistently enforced.

John Drake can speak for himself. He does not require that you "demonstrate" or otherwise distort what he has posted.

Rakk your contribution to this thread has been poor so far.

Is there a particular point you can make without reference to insult and dismissal?
