Re: And you thought witch burning was a thing of the past?

Can someone provide an alternative context instead of resorting to non sequiturs

Can someone offer a better rebuttal than a non sequitur to post 116?

I think a modern purpose for Religion is to provide "conduits to markets"; in the holiness and morality sector.

Good thing there is more than just a loose correlation. The fact is there is direct causation. If you can't be honest with yourself and admit that you are really just acting like a child.

OK, then, O' great biblical scholar why don't you tell me what they mean. Please be aware that the Christians where I live don't believe in interpreting they believe in the bible as literal and inerrant truth.

Who are these "Christians"? Please be specific, actual churches that can be verified. Thanks.

And, just in case you missed it, please read this post.

About Us - Basic Beliefs

Quote:
The Scriptures
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.
There ya go. Next.

Not so fast Hoss. Where exactly does it say they believe every part of the Bible be taken literally, and, "If the law would allow them they would have no problem slaying them by the hundreds" (homosexuals)?

From the website you linked to:
Quote:
How do I treat the homosexual activist community?

The Church’s role in society as Salt and Light requires that we both love and resist the homosexual activist community. We’re called to love them by showing respect to them even as we disagree; by refusing to resort to name calling or aspersions when we refer to them; by co-existing with them peacefully whenever possible; and by sharing the gospel with them at every opportunity. But our call to love them does not negate our responsibility to oppose their goal of legitimizing homosexuality, and their tendency to silence all voices of those who disagree. Herein we have the challenge to exhibit grace and truth—the challenge to be truly Christ-like in our response to gay militancy.
Quote:
Is there a place for the homosexual in the local church?

There should be a place for every sinner in the local church. Jesus came not for the healthy, but for the sick. To close off the church to only those who are “healed” is to miss the point of the Gospel. However, the local church cannot tolerate intentional, purposeful sinful behavior, no matter the form it takes. There are many lifestyle choices that may hinder someone’s ability to serve in the local church. A sexually active homosexual is sinning in the same way a sexually active single heterosexual is sinning. A sexually active homosexual must be biblically confronted with their sin as should anyone actively pursuing sinful activities.

The church must protect the flock and sometimes the greater good means that individuals are negatively impacted. However, it is the rare situation that requires the expulsion of someone from corporate worship. The church is called not to sanitize the world of believers, but to make disciples, no matter how dirty it gets!

It is important to remember that homosexual desires and feelings do not mean someone is a “homosexual.” Homosexual desires may lead one to accept a homosexual identity, but every Christian is first and foremost a child of God. Someone who struggles with unwanted homosexual desires is not a homosexual. Someone who practiced homosexuality in the past is not a homosexual simply because of their past struggles. Temptation is not sin and should not be treated as such. If the church takes each person as it finds them and holds every Christian to the same standard, then the church should have no problem finding a place for anyone in the local church!
Yeah, it really sounds as if they want to slay homosexuals by the hundreds.

Yes, but you don't know what it means. If you had any historical context you'd know that what he said happened to the early Christians. If you became a Christian your family would reject you and have you killed. Many Christians were persecuted, to the extreme, simply for their beliefs. This is still going on to this very day. Christians around the world (present day) die simply because they are Christian.

It helps to know the context of what you are reading, vice taking a small excerpt.

Yes, people have a problem with focusing on a small passage and ignoring the context that surrounds it. Hell, that happens with the Constitution as well.

Ouch, that will leave a mark on this extremist Christian hater. He doesn't even know what he links. I also believe their stance on homosexuality is pretty much what the true Christian stance is.

Yes, people often forget the root of Christianity is Christ. In order to glean what it is the Bible has to say, one must pay careful attention to what Jesus says in the Bible.

And even better, since he spoke in parables a lot, is to pay careful attention to how he lived his life. If they can't understand what He is saying then they can easily see how He lived.

Remember how He treated those that the clergy of the day looked down upon and scorned? And then compare how He treated those very same clergy that thought themselves so righteous. I have a feeling He would treat many church leaders today with the very same contempt.
