Joseph Coppola is union president of the Bergen County (NJ) Education Association. He sent the following prayer to the union's 17,000 members.
"Dear lord,' this year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays. I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor."
Many teachers were beside themselves. They were almost hysterical. One teacher summed it up best. "I'm outraged! Our union president has stomped on the Declaration of Independence. This is a clear violation of the Bills of Rights written by the father of our country, Ben Franklin. It's a violation of the segregation of church and state so clearly written about in the fifth adjustment. Obama will fix it."
Union Memo Hints At N.J. Gov.'s Death - wcbstv.com
These people take themselves waaaaaayyy to seriously.
So it's your position that it's perfectly acceptable for an educator to solicit prayers for the death of an elected official?
Alrighty then...
If you lived in, and were raising children in, Bergen county NJ (as I am) it would be okay with you that your teacher's union president had such poor judgement to send this email to 17,000 (SEVENTEENFVCKINGTHOUSAND) people?
Give me a freakin' break.
I agree that occasionally folks take themselves too seriously. ANd I agree that at times folks will make a mountain out of a molehill for political gain.
But as a parent who may soon be putting his child into the Bergen county school system I'd like to think that the teacher's union is presided over by someone who isn't such an astonishingly retarded idiot.
I ♣ Ideologues!
It was a freaking joke! Geez! I've seen the same joke except it ended with "Brett Farve is my favorite quarterback." Lighten up!!!!!!

I am not claiming to know the politics involved between the Governor and the teacher’s union but I think it just might be a little contentious sometimes.
It will only take one of the 17,000 people who received the email to get the idea that exercising their second amendment right and killing the governor just might be OK.
In any case, it is in such bad taste and such a colossal error in judgement that do you really want this guy leading the people who will be shaping the young minds of all the students in their care?
I always find it strange that only reasonable people agree with me.

Speaking from experience - the leader of the teachers' union has zero impact on how one teaches.
I laughed. But I have a disturbing humour. I'm a terrible person.
"We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."
“They paid the highest price that a soldier can pay. I bow before you. Germany bows before you.”
I'm not following you.
This has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with who is or was president or anything that's happened over the past eight years.
If your argument is that two wrongs make a right or something like that then I simply disagree with you. Otherwise I have no idea what you're driving at.
If one of the people I manage sent an email to 17,000 people asking that they pray for the death of anyone, joking or not, it would cause me to seriously question their judgement to the extent that I would start looking for ways to terminate and replace that employee. If my kid sent an email to 17,000 people asking that they pray for the death of anyone I'd fan his ass.
I fail to see why this guy gets a free pass to tell lousy jokes, demonstrate deplorable judgement, make a mockery of a leadership office that potentially effects my child's future, and embarass himself by acting like a douchebag just because "of the president we had for the past 8 years".

Lame and not very classy.
First they came for the mimes, and I did not speak out, because I was a mime.
Mrs. M was right. Its a really old internet joke and has been around in one form or another for a while now. Not even Rush thought it was something to take seriously and if there ever was not a friend of the teacher's union its Rush.
There are other things the teacher's unions do that are far more worriesome than this funny joke. Yes, it made me laugh.

 Please, the right to bare arms does not include the right to commit murder. If someone were motivated "by this email" to kill the governor I would be more upset that such a person was teaching in the first place, since only teachers received the email.
 Anyone dealing with children or the education of children needs to have a healthy sense of humor. A little dark humor can help us get through difficult situations and conditions, especially in these dark times. In any case, it is in such bad taste and such a colossal error in judgement that do you really want this guy leading the people who will be shaping the young minds of all the students in their care?

If that one person gets the idea that exercising their second amendment right and killing the governor is okay, then they would have done so without receiving an email because they're crazy.
This is the kind of joke my favorite high school teacher would have told me and believe me, he was a great teacher, the kind who would hand you back an assignment and tell you to do it over because he knew you could do better. If the guy that sent this email is anything like Mr. D, then his students are damn lucky to have him.
