Despite all of the partisan bickering, there doesn't really seem to be a solution being presented.
If this girl was born in the US, and therefore a US citizen, what do we do? Do we deport the mother and condemn the child to foster care? Why would we purport such a fate to a citizen?
Or are some taking the position that some citizens are more equal than others?
No solution? I think the solution is fairly obvious. This girl's mother is here illegally. She should be held accountable to the law and deported. The mother is the legal guardian of her child so it would be up to here what would need to be done. Options can include taking her child with her or giving the guardianship of her child to a legal resident.
Now you might say, "Damn that's harsh." But, in reality, it's no harsher than what many of our dual military families have to do. If both parents are in the military you have to have a Family Care Plan in the advent of both parents deploying and they haven't even broken the law. Additionally, the hardships that the little girl would endure would be the fault of the poor choices made by her mother, not the government for enforcing the law.
"The long run is a misleading guide to current affairs. In the long run we are all dead." - John Maynard Keynes (admits his philosophy is not viable)
And therein lies the truth to 'anchor babies'. People don't want to separate a mother from her child and yet, the only way they should be able to legally stay together is if the mother is deported and takes her child with her. Yes, it sounds harsh but the mother created the situation by coming here illegally and rewarding her for having an anchor baby only promotes more anchor babies.

Would suggest basics of law are not in the formula for this particular situation. You have an angelic little 7 year old innocently "spilling the beans on her mama". The administration was not about to get involved in that one. Political suicide.
But did think it was interesting that the DHS spokesperson ciited the weakness of the evidence as the first reason for not pursuing. Second was that they are so busy picking up all the "shadey illegals" that they just don't have time to pick up any low hanging fruit.
"DHS spokesman Matt Chandler said in an e-mailed statement Thursday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations "are based on solid law enforcement work and not classroom Q-and-As."
Chandler added the agency "prioritizes criminal aliens who pose a threat to our communities."

Really?
Tell that to Republican rep Souder who cheated on his wife with the girl who he made the abstinance video with, then blamed society for having to resign.
Tell that to all the Republicans who think it's OK to tear apart families who have some members who are citizens and some here without papers.
Tell that to the right wing homophobes who deny the right to marriage to gays because they think it will harm their own marriage, and then they go out and cheat on their wives.
It's outrageous and blatant hypocrisy, right out in the open, for all to see.

Bad analogy.
You see, only Republicans are doing these things.
It's a Republican ideology. It's not a Democratic policy to preach about abstinance, and the sanctity of marriage, how gays will destroy marriage if they are allowed to marry, families should be split up if some of them don't have immigration papers.
These are Republican ideologies. If Republicans don't like these policies, why are they still Republicans? And why do they come to political message boards and repeat these things as if they believe them?
I'm registered as a Republican and generally vote Republican, though I always vote the candidate, not the party. I don't preach abstinence, I'm for gay marriages, I'm anti-abortion but don't think they should be outlawed because of the consequences of doing so but I do believe illegals should not be able to stay in the US just because they happen to drop a kid here. As for why I'm still registered Republican, because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter.
