Thread: Is Lowes going to hire illegals?

Man, you guys have got to get a grip! This is America! This is how we do America and always has been. I have seen help wanted signs in America that were written in Greek, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Lebanese, and Chinese. Its not a big deal; America isn't "yours"... you can't come to America and then close it to everyone after you.

There are a large number of spanish speaking immigrants who are here legally.

And once again the concept of legal entry is left out of the equation. There is no reason....none whatsoever...that we should be required to accept as citizens those who broke our laws to gain entry to our country.

Legal immigrants speak Spanish, too. I suspect if one is looking for employment at Lowes, their English education may not be too hot.

You notice these posters don't live in areas that are affected on a daily bases with the impact of illegal immigration. Easy to be compassionate when it doesn’t affect you.

It's funny how we all expect that, if we go on vacation to Mexico, France, or any place else, we would like EVERYONE to speak English. . .
And yet. . .we resent the fact that companies (even those who deal a LOT with Latinos, because. . .let's face it. . .a lot of construction and landscape workers in some states are Latinos) when they want to hire people who will be able to speak in Spanish to Latino customers!

That doesn't mean that they will hire illegal immigrants. . .but what's wrong about encouraging ANY customers to purchase their products???

I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. It's so logically flawed, my brain hurts just trying to make sense of the argument. Here's what I understand people are getting at:

1) Lowes has a sign saying they're hiring.
2) The sign is in both English and Spanish.
3) Lowes is trying to hire illegal immigrants.

Do I have this correct so far? Do illegal immigrants only speak Spanish and do legal immigrants only speak English? Because, pretty much both of those would have to be true for the argument to transition from point 2 to point 3. Since they're not true and illegal immigrants can often speak English (which would mean "for hire" signs in English are also trying to hire illegal aliens using the above 'logic') and legal immigrants can often be much stronger in Spanish than English, the argument completely and utterly fails.

Also, Lowes is a national chain. With immigration already being quite a touchy subject, does anyone think they'd be retarded enough to openly break the law by advertising the hiring of illegal immigrants? Christ Almighty, people.

Yes America is MY country. Being born an American entitles me to a stake in it. And as stated, I didn't come here I was BORN here. If enough of us Americans want to close it we can dam sure as he'll do so.

I think it's a pretty safe bet, hell I know it is, that most illegals don't speak English. Hell most can't even read Their own dam language. I also know that most if not all Americans who are of Mexican decent, speak English. So why would Lowes need to have a help wanted sign in Spanish? There is no need in a bilengual help wanted sign intended to hire only Americans. To be honest though I wouldn't stop a guy from getting a job even if he was an illegal. Yes that makes me a hypocrite but I'm not heartless. But I don't have to condone it either.
