    Rubio's immigration push

Every ones heard of the dream act that the dems put forward a couple of years ago. It was IMO nothing less then amnesty, and was defeated by the Reps and put on hold.

All are aware of the need to close the border, build the fence and get all the illegal immigrants out of the country. Arizona has passed numerous laws in an attempt to control the border in their state. The GOP and lots of people here were up in arms when the feds sued the state over those laws.

And now Sen. Marco Rubio one of the raising stars in the GOP and one of Romney's possible VP picks is working on an immigration bill that would allow young illegal immigrants who came to the United States with their parents to apply for non-immigrant visas. They would be permitted to stay in the country to study or work, could obtain a driver's license but would not be able to vote.

I have to wonder if this is a real effort at immigration reform or just a political move to try to get the illegal vote. If they are allowed to get a driver's license would they be able to get food stamps and welfare.

    Re: Rubio's immigration push

I doubt Democrats will go for it, they will want those votes that Rubio's bill removes as well as the "path to citizenship" being off the table. The GOP knows that vote leans Democratic and odds are all of them will step up to the mic reminding whoever will listen that it is a GOP ploy to legislatively remove this group from being able to vote. This, if it goes as planned, will backfire for the GOP.

This is a red herring. No Democrat will allow any form of immigration to be reformed cause it takes away to big of a voting block for them.

I don't really think it's a red herring. It's pretty common knowledge that the Dems won't approve of anything the Reps put up, nor will the Reps approve of anything the Dems put up. Sad, but that's the Gov. we have now.

The Dem plan has a path to citizenship if they go to school or join the Military.

The Rep plan has visas with Gov. ID's

    Neither plan IMO is good

The question is, will the Reps get behind Rubio's plan after all the talk about closing the border and building fences and would they get behind Rubio as VP if he's Romney's pick?

Oh bullshit. If what you say is true then we wouldn't have had a debt ceiling raise.

LMAO Maybe you need to read your own posts. I stated my opinion about how this bill will not go anywhere and you lashed out with mindless rhetoric and I corrected it. I would say maybe you need to grow up more than I. Did you expect some of us will denounce the bill? As immigration reform bills go it is better than most.

expand on that some. What part do you feel is better.

The Dems dream act has a path to citizenship if they do certain things. That just boils down to amnesty, which IMO is not the way it should be done.

The Rubio plan will give work visa's and a DL, that sounds like amnesty with out citizenship. Which again IMO is not the way it should be done.

So why is Rubio's better then the dream act?

    Bullshit.

In order to end illegal immigration the government needs to come down on business owners who employ illegal labor in a draconian fashion.

It needs to be zero tolerance, one strike you're out and it needs to apply to American citizens.

You got caught once employing one illegal alien?

Okay, you lose your business and go to federal prison for 10 years where you get raped in the ass by murderers and gang bangers.

    Problem solved.

    Overnight.

It'll be like the fucking Trail of Tears with Mexicans heading back south.

But the Republicans are too beholden to their special interests to actually enact effective anti-illegal immigration legislature.

So they fuck around and fuck around with bullshit bills proposing building 3000 MILES of fence along a border that can easily be crossed by water or through tunnels.

Oh You mean do I like the amnesty parts? No. I do think it holds stricter penalties for businesses that use illegal though.

I can agree with much of what you said and have said about the same thing in the past. Start with Tyson and the other meat packing plants, move on to the big ArgaFarms etc...

The fence is a waste of time and money and won't stop anything.

However to be fair, the Dems aren't exactly falling over themselves to stop it either.

I just thought some of our right leaning folks could explain what the difference in the two plans were and if and why they would support Rubio's plan over the Dems plan.

What penalties? Under the Rubio plan there would be no illegals, they would be given work visa's and DL's

I didn't see any penalties, I may have missed it. Could you please show me the part that deals with penalties?

There is no "illegal" vote to speak of.
There is a legal hispanic vote, and it's the fastest growing voting demographic.

When you say "we don't want any scumbag Mexicans in this country, we'll build a fence to keep out, shoot em if they try to climb it" you alienate the people who are American citizens of Mexican descent, and hispanics in general.
Rubio is reaching out, trying to bring the Hispanic vote to the GOP, by repairing the damage that has been done by appeals to anti-hispanic racism that the GOP has used in the past.
