Think this is the first step in getting more illegals to stay?
The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin giving work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of a growing Latino electorate that has opposed administration deportation policies.
The administration's decision will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants. Two senior administration officials described the plan on condition of anonymity ahead of its expected announcement Friday.
Illegal immigrants will avoid deportation and be eligible for work permits if they arrived in the U.S. before age 16, are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED, or served in the military.

Campaign season and politically motivated move to secure votes that probably would not go Republican anyway.

"Every time something really bad happens, people cry out for safety, and the government answers by taking rights away from good people.” - Penn Jillette amazingly enough, and I agree.
Probably more of a "next step" in garnering Latino votes.
President Obama hasn't exactly been the best friends illegals have ever had in the White House so I don't necessarially see it as a portent to "worse things to come".
I ♣ Ideologues!
This is enough to make me puke! What kind of president hands out work visas in a time when so many Americans are unemployed? I don't buy the "jobs Americans won't do" bullshit, I see them as auto mechanics, brick masons, carpenters, plumbers, etc. Obama has stripped our power to influence our congressional representatives and gone dictator with his pen.
But yes, the mexicans will just love his half arab ass come November.
Take a good hard look, it's coming.
I'd be fine with this as long as we are allowed to deport 2 moonbats for every illegal allowed to stay.

Seems to be pissing off all the people it should and not bothering anyone it shouldn't. Plus it's a smart move politically. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other but it seems reasonable enough to allow immigrants who came here as children and have proven themselves to be good citizens an opportunity to contribute to society.

And so continues the Clinton/GW/Obama legacy.

Might as well disband congress. We no longer need them. How's that for shrinking gov't?
"Like every other good thing in this world, leisure and culture have to be paid for. Fortunately, however, it is not the leisured and the cultured who have to pay." Aldous Huxley.
Really? Since when is the Executive allowed to simply overrule the laws established by Congress? Doesn't that kind of blow the whole "Representative government" thing out of the water?
Here's the deal. Obama figures that this will score him big points with Hispanics and the open borders crowd. It's a direct kowtow to the extreme fringes of the progressive left and, probably, won't be the last. Wait until the executive order decriminalizing pot shows up in mid September. THAT should drive some voter enthusiasm.

Someone needs to decriminalize pot. We can no longer afford to lock millions up and feed em just because they smoke pot. Who's body is this anyways? The gov't's? When did they buy it? What right do they have to tell me what I can smoke, or eat, or drink? NONE.
We tried to do this with booze. It created more crime, more expense for gov't. Just because you want to dictate the lives of others doesn't mean you should be allowed to. Who the hell are you? God?

Eh? I dunno about the whole overriding the laws of the land thing. As for the representativ government thing, the prez is a representative, after all, so I don't think that point applies. Besides, I'm really just talking about whether it's a good idea or not. Not whether it's constitutional. Two different conversations.
Yeah it's a political move. So what? So is everything else any of these people do.

So far – radio and television – I have heard no journalist or political commentator ask the question; How do we know how long illegal immigrants have been in this country? How do we know if they have a high school education? I mean, the new humane word liberals want us to describe them with is ‘undocumented’ workers. What the hell do you think ‘undocumented’ means? It means we have no paper trail or definitive history for these individuals. That means in essence what Obama has just done is ruled all illegal immigrants 30 years old and younger as legal workers. The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin giving work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of a growing Latino electorate that has opposed administration deportation policies.

Does this mean for all illegal immigrants or just Hispanics? What is to stop a couple thousand 25-year-old terrorists from showing up and claiming they graduated high school wherever in 2005, and use the President’s new ruling as the fast track to all becoming airline flight attendants?

Taking a big-picture approach, what other laws should the President be able to declare null and void by proclamation?
Bear in mind, despite the partisan fantasies of some here, the Presidency always changes hands eventually. What laws will you be able to accept the next President declaring null and void?
