Fact is, there are probably more american tourists residing in my street at the moment than french people. They're not mistreated, insulted, or hassled in any way. They seem to be having a great time. I have to dodge left and right every time I leave my home to avoid bumping into them because they seem to be unable to watch where they're going, but hey, they're on vacation, I'm not going to ruin it for them just because they're a navigational hazard. So you can stow your paranoid delusions about french people, mr. open-minded.

Glockmail's explanation why he hates France:

Glockmail's Reason #1: because they attempted to tie our hands with the UN
France is trying to tie the USA to the UN? The French believe that many problems can be solved best with an international organisation, in this case the UN. So what? Be more specific Glockmail, how are the French making the USA so dependant to the UN? What did France do that justifies so much hate?

Glockmail's Reason #2: because of the oil for food program/scandal
Aha, you hate France because of the "oil for food program/scandal". Do you even know what the scandal all was about? Is this "scandal" the sole fault of France, and when yes, why?
Iraq was ripped off by this oil for food scandal, and therefore the Iraqies have suffered dammage from it. Now lets assume France is the big evildoer and the sole creator of this "scandal" that hurt the Iraqies so much: Are you associated with the Iraqies emotionally so much that you would make any country who harms the Iraqies your archenemy?? (in this case France). I can not imagine that a guy like you who is so full of hate has much feelings left for something/someone so unamerican, sorry. If I'm wrong about your feelings towards the Iraqies, than you must hate your own country as much as you hate France than. Let's look back 10 years: Iraq suffured very much from the sanctions imposed uppon the country. Iraq's economy could not grow due to the sactions, and therefore could not afford to nurture its' poplulation. Approximitly 1.5 million citizens starved to death or died of unsufficient medical care.
The sactions did not allow Iraq to import medicine, it did not allow Iraq to import technology for water cleaning or sewege desposal, it didn't allow Iraq to import telecomunication or vehicles for transportations, heck, even soap was a forbidden import good. And now guess who fought like mad to maintain these inhuman sanctions... Yeah, exactly, your beloved country the USA.
Now why am I writing such things on an American politics forum where I might get flamed? I just want to show that you always can find a thousand excuses to make a country look bad and therefore hate it.

Glockmail, you still haven't explained why France is so evil. So unless you won't post a detailled list + explanations on why France is the reincarnation of Satan you are simply a flamer with racistic tendencies (yeah, the guy I described who only acts on an emotional basis and can't explain why he hates someone). To me it's clear your making things up and you WANT to hate France.
Give me that detailled list and I will excuse myself for calling you a flamer with racistic tendencies.

Until than, flame on and happy hating

You very much sound like you have to go to the Oktoberfest in Munich
All there: Beer, Women, Beer, Beer, Women, not to forget sausages and some rustical Bierzelt- atmosphere.

But of course you cant ski there

WRT Austria, it has many ski ressorts, for every taste the right one. No matter if you are looking for a partytime, or just some Gemütlichkeit, or perhaps a family ski holiday...
And for gawking apart from smaller sights, you would have Innsbruck or Salzburg in the vincinity.

Innsbruck during summer

If anybody wondered why the sainted United Nations, France, Russia and Syria joined forces in trying to block the United States from ousting Saddam Hussein’s brutal regime in Iraq, the answer is now becoming clear; they feared exposure of the corruption into which they had dragged the now-infamous Oil for Food program.

Aljazeera, not exactly a pro-American organization, apparently disagrees.

Geez, glockmail, you're the last person who I'd expect to think Al Jazeera was a reputable news organization.

Re: Anti-Americanism 'feels like racism'

Glock is partially right about this scandal. A lot of people worldwide are under judicial investigation in different countries (USA and France are both part of them). Many money has been used for personal benefit using "white-making" financial institutions both in Switzerland and Egypt. Three very famous french politicians are being prosecuted (up to 60 million dollar personal benefit) and hotels in Paris receive regulary faxes from authorities searching for French, egyptian and american VIPs hidding from the justice. Most of them are awaited by feds both in the US and in France. And that concerns really many people, from the head of the UN to diplomats and politicians of many many countries (including France and the US).

Saddam was on the point to give names when he was arrested and isolated. I think both US and french governements are happy he does not speak too much to journalists.

But the mounting evidence of scandal that has been uncovered in the U.N. Oil For Food program suggests that there was never a serious possibility of getting Security Council support for military action because influential people in Russia and France were getting paid off by Saddam. …..
In a series of articles published earlier this year, the Iraqi independent newspaper al Mada reported on a list of several hundred individuals, corporations and political parties that benefited from Saddam's oil vouchers and explained how the system worked. The intent of the program was to sell Iraqi oil to pay for food and medicine for the Iraqi people, who were suffering due to sanctions. Instead, vouchers were doled out as gifts or as payment for goods imported into the country in violation of U.N. sanctions. The recipient would then turn the voucher over to one of a number of firms operating in the United Arab Emirates, in exchange for commissions ranging anywhere from 5 cents to 30 cents per barrel, depending on market conditions. (This translates into a profit of $50,000 on the low end and $300,000 on the high end for every 1 million barrels worth of oil vouchers.)
The beneficiary list (found in the archives of the Iraqi Oil Ministry and translated into English by the Middle East Media Research Institute) should be deeply embarrassing to many prominent people. [These] include: former French Interior Minister Charles Pasqua (12 million barrels); Patrick Maugein, CEO of the oil company Soco International and financial backer of French President Jacques Chirac (25 million); former French Ambassador to the United Nations Jean-Bernard Merimee (11 million)…..

Ok Glockmail. I read the article from the site:
http://www.aljazeera.com/cgi-bin/con...ory.asp?id=100

So now this article/incident is THE source, the ultimate explanation for your grudge?

THE Oil-for-Food scandal spread to France, a leading critic of the Iraq war, with allegations against a former senior minister (James Bone writes).
The US Senate sub-committee released documents last night suggesting that Charles Pasqua, who served as Interior Minister from 1986 to 1988 and from 1993 to 1995, had been allocated millions of barrels of oil by Saddam Hussein in 1999 and 2000.

“Documents created by the Ministry of Oil during the Hussein regime and interviews of high-ranking Hussein-regime officials conducted by the sub-committee provide substantial evidence that Charles Pasqua was granted oil allocations for 11 million barrels of oil from the Hussein regime under the Oil-for-Food programme in return for his continued support,” the Senate panel said.

The program was set up that you could sell oil for humanitarian goods for food. It was set up in a way that every transaction was through Saddam. So what he did is he got kickbacks on every single transaction. If you were to place a bid for humanitarian goods, Saddam would... it would add a surcharge into that bid that would go directly to him and to a bank in Jordan, a bank in Syria, a bank in Switzerland. There are a whole range of schemes he had in which every single transaction that took place Saddam got his percentage which he then used for whatever purposes he wanted to use them. And according to the Delpha report, Charles Delpha, from the Iraqi study group, he used them to rearm himself. He used it to fund terrorism. In the end, he used it to bribe key figures involved with Russia France, Germany, and the other member states of the Security Council.
