That's the typical and stupid american explanation of anti-americanism.

The reason of anti-americanism is that America tries to subdue weak countries. For example, contracts on Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 shelf oil, imposed to Russia by USA when Russia was weak, are almost unprofitable for Russia. Russia gets 0 roubles from it.

Contracts were composed in that way that Russia can't even get taxes from it before american companies "compensate expences" while american companies of course "increase" them constantly.

It came to that Russia can't even get 1$ form its own oilfields!!!

And you are asking after that why people are anti-american?

Well I am not american, I don't know what the american response would be, but you tell me it is the same as mine. They probably have a better more thought out one for the cry-babies who blame everything on them rather than fix things themselves.

But do you know what really the difference between Europe and the US is on this issue? I mean appart from the stuff one has inherited. Its the first Oil crises and its consquences.
Before the Oil crises Europe was at least as Car fanatic as the US. Cities were built to be "car friendly" that was the first maxime. Than the real shock came, and I really think the US felt the Oil crises completely different then Europe. It was the time when suddenly doubts started to rise and grow if this "car friendly" is really that good for us. And the oppistion to the premisse of the car friendly city grew constantly. Well, dont get a wrong impression, people dont hate cars, nor are they fans of high gas prices. But they dont want those damn cars next to their houses. And in cities many accept to reach that goal to use the public means.

Thats completely different from us. But over the long I believe you will change your opinion. At least when you start to feel the need to save fuel. And that comes as certain as the death will find all of us one day. Maybe not in the next decades, but most likely within the next 100.

Perhaps I should formulate it provocing: Europeans dont want to have "car friendly" cities anymore. They want "people friendly" cities. Perhaps the difference between us is that we think that both terms contradict with each other.

I don't believe Europe was ever quite as car crazy as we are here in the U.S. Our automobiles are the center of our cultural and the ultimate expression of our freedom as Americans. Most people would prefer to drive everywhere they could if it was possible to do so within their financial means. You should read I'm a Stranger Here Myself by Bill Bryson. It offers some insight to American culture (both the good and bad) from an outside perspective. There is one section in particular that talks about the road trip, something that is integral to our culture and attempts to describe its novelties and why we love it. We would rather change our fuel source for our cars than switch to public transportation. Many people utilize public transportation when possible, but only when it is extremely convenient because we would rather pay more to use our personal automobiles than be constricted by the schedules of public transportation. Getting ones driver's license is considered a right of passage here and millions of guys will tell you that some of their fondest memories with their fathers often involved a car. Asking americans to fully embrace public transportation is asking us to disregard our cultural foundation.

That is why we don't embrace public transportation as much as we probably should.

Global anti-American feelings may take decades to fix

Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- It may take decades to change anti-American feelings around the world that have been aggravated by war in Iraq, U.S. policy toward Israel and America's "sex and violence" culture, the State Department official in charge of dealing with the U.S. image abroad said Thursday.

"The anti-Americanism, the concern around the world ... this ideological struggle, it's not going to change" quickly, Undersecretary of State Karen Hughes said in an interview with the Associated Press. "It's going to be the work of years and maybe decades."

A June poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found that America's image in 15 nations dropped sharply in 2006. According to that poll, America's continued involvement in Iraq was seen as a worse problem than Iran and its nuclear ambitions.

So why not have the Russian government pull another Gazprom scam on another oil company. Hey it worked once. Oh but wait a minute, this wouldn't be against some wealthy Russian. This time it would be taking on the US, and they don't want to go quite that far.

I was a U.S. soldier stationed in Germany. Mostly people treated me decently. Every so often I would run into an idiot. It's funny the response you get one someone starts badmouthing you and you react by laughing at them. Boy do people get angry.

As I said thanks for the lesson in Russian bigotry, one more reason why we should let you sink.
