Anti-Americanism has been building for decades, long before GWB became president. About the only place that one can truly say that America's policies and support of Israel are the cause are those in the middle east and they are looking through the glass of a warped religion that's brainwashed the masses.

Outside of the Middle East it is that everyone hates the guy on top and wants to see him fall. The wars in Iraq and Ahfganistan have sort of blurred this distiction and given these bigots a false sense of, "I told you so" and justification for their hatred.

I am not sure if the word 'hate' is really appropriate, but in general I'd agree, America - and as a consequence Americans - are very much disliked in Europe.
Still, I am a little bit surprised about the vehement reaction in the UK, as they are traditionally - or at least their policy - pro-American.

Unfortunately, Europe is in a political sense weaker than ever.. much talk but no alternative.

I have lots of American friends, love US bands, TV, writers etc etc etc. I think most sane and rational people just despair at the ridiculous US foreign policy formulated by a government of Republican, religious fundamentalists, war criminals and what some cultures call “c*nts”. Saying that, I’d be the first to say that our government is no better.

You have never been to the US have you? Otherwise you would know that this country is not inhabited by cruel monsters but surprise surprise by humans like you and me, friendly ones btw, friendlier than many Europeans are even though maybe sometimes a bit more superficial.

I think the allies without the US could have taken out Germany - it would just have taken a bit longer. Secondly, the US only engaged Germany for selfish reasons, since they discovered german plans of invading the US from the south with mexican troops.
