Anyway I'm also a bit confused about all this, what's so bad about people talking about their abroad expierences (beer, food and stuff) for a while and then (hopefully) coming back to the original topic of the thread?

I mean, it's not like asking further questions is illegal in here, so instead of giving up, Tim should just post his ideas/questions (imho).

I had a great Grüner Veltliner recently , from Krems in Lower Austria i think.

I know what you mean. When I visited Germany I spent a few nights in Koblenz. Best of both worlds.

Koblenz is nice, but mostly the surrounding and the position at the conjunction of Rhine and Moselle. The city itself is rather ugly (heavily destroyed in WW II). Both Mainz and also Trier ( up the Moselle valley) hold much more for the visitor.

To be fair, most major cities in Germany were bombed to shit during WW2. So, IMO, you can't really hold that against Koblenz.

As a side note, what is probably my favorite castle in Germany is located along the Mosel. Well, near it anyway.

Eltz has a little too many tourists for my taste, i personally love this one.....

I'll conceed that. Still, as far as the castle goes, it is quite nice.

If I ever get to Luxembourg, I'll have to check out the one you mentioned.

Another one also worth a visit ( in Germany again, and also close to the Moselle) is this one, where i spent an extremely drunk night last week.
The wine is gorgeous.........
