You import over 50% of your oil needs, and your trade deficit is gargantuan.

Do you propose complete isolationism since you don't have any need for the rest of the world. Do you believe you have enough energy resources in the states to produce 20 million barrels of day of oil? Natural Gas to heat your homes? Do you not realize that your economy is interdependent with the global economy?

We have plenty of oil reserves here. They are a little more expensive to get at, due to environmentalists and union labor costs. If we don't suck it out of ANWR you Canadians will do it for us. We have 250 years worth of coal to burn, and the technology to burn it cleanly. Natural gas areas on the east coast have been declared off limits by environmentalists. There is also geothermal in areas that needs to be tapped, before another volcano blows that will make Mt. St. Helens look like a firecracker. We could put sea turbines on the Gulf Stream and laugh while the UK has an Ice Age. We also have enough nuclear fuel capability to last centuries. If energy prices get high enough, enough people will tell the environmentalists to "shut up", and we'll have plenty of energy. So screw the rest of the world.

The world economy won't be worth shit if we Americans closed our borders, refusing to buy your stuff and police ya'll. Relatively speaking, we Americans would be in high cotton. And you're women would end up wearing burkas.

Care to name any other resources that we would be lacking?

I agree that the US could go full bore on whatever existing energy you guys have left, but it would be temporary and I seriously doubt the political will exists to do it. I think american energy independence would be an absolutely wonderful thing, go for it, please. The world would be such a better place if you could. But it does not change the fact that america is an enormous energy glutton and that your reserves do not have the ability to produce enough energy to go on business as usual with a growing economy indefinitely. And seriously, do you relaly want to burn all that coal? What a disaster that would be....

Hah, thats funny Glockmail, we don't need them huh? Stop the globalization! Stop making things in China, stop the importing of oil, stop it all! Oh, and I guess that supposes we'll stop poking our noses in other countries businesses and start some kinda isolationism. By the way, we'll just have to get rid of all those bases of ours all over the world.
This is what appears to be your idea of the world, and I've got to bluntly say that your wrong. The world doesn't get by without us, we Americans don't live in a vaccum, and with our decisions so far reaching its in the best interest of the world to keep tabs on us. So you want to close our borders, figure the world is so primitive that they need us more than we need them. Just try to close the borders, just try to get Americans to make everything from TV's to Cars that they'll actually pay for (We know you will, but what about your other fellow Americans...chuck 'em if they don't agree with you?), and then hope the primitive world wont have its evils that wont reach to us.

Or one could hope that america would not revert to primitivism, while the rest of the world goes forth.

Re: Anti-Americanism 'feels like racism'

Its a mixture of two reasons, one they can't accept our superiority, they can't accept our truly supreme authority, military and economic might and so on and secondly they're jealous. I think its a more broadscale thing, its not just of the U.S., its of other powers like Great Britain, Israel and so on.

The thing is there actually certain Americans who can't accept our might, they can't accept the fact that yes we are the greatest nation in the world, the most powerful, the most free, the country that everyone wants to come to live.

Sorry if this sounds egotistical but this is the reason why a mixture of jealousy and true hate that it is us that are the best, the greatest.

To be honest its just as radical in certain setiments and elements of America, certain Kool Aid liberals get more mad about it than the French do.

This is just a broader view, not so much in specificity of this article.

I accept like everyone and since URSS doesn't exist that US is the only total power in the world.
Best economic influence, best cultural influence, best military power, best et cetera.

But when you say that everyone would live in US i do not approve. I would come in US for holidays perhabs, if i m not arresting by the FBI to have pronounced the word "bomb" or this kind of words.
US isn't the country where i would live, sorry, since some years US isn't a country where i would have my holidays. Peoples are too religious, too suspicious, and too controled. Your pseudo freedoms are just limited by control and laws for all. You cannot walk with a bottle of alcool in the street, and you must be very very prudent when you come from Europe to US. It s like to come in a country where you can be arresting three times per day if you live like in Europe.
Out of it, US can be a dream for those who are sure too success in this system.
Anti americanism isn't a question of jealousy. Anti americanism is the result of an incredible unconscious arrogance.
"With US or against us" will stand the symbol of it according to me.

Re: Anti-Americanism 'feels like racism'

Alright maybe we have more standards to put it that way but why is it tourism is greater in our land than anywhere else in the world?

When i say more people want to come to us, i mean more people come to the U.S. than anywhere else to work, for porsperity and to build a future.

We have so much hope and promise, we always like to try and progress, better ourselves, i don't think people on the whole are too apposed to that either, but with that comes increase in power, in land and so on and the zealots on the other side just can't accept that.

I think you are confusing primitivism with Raquel Welch sci-fi movies from the 60s. I often make this mistake. There is a subtle difference.

Tourism isn't the greater in US. But immigrants are coming to america first. But, what kind of immigrants??? Immigrants from america first.

The cultural influence of america is responsable of it. All what america is saying to the world is: " We are the best system, richer, the most free and you can have a gun... like in our films" Peoples are coming to the american dream, not really to america, they come to this dream that you show to them in your cinema.

Last time I checked France was the worlds most popular tourist destination.

Are you counting mexican immigrants in this tally? Little hard for them to swim to canada or Europe I think.

That is true of americans, but it is also true of most european nations, asian nations, and Canada and Australia. Power does not automatically come from that, power is desired and acheived for entirely different reasons altogether.

Well to be honest i meant legal immigrants more than anything, the exchange worker programs we have, the worker Visa's and stuff we have. We certainly welcome a lot people from countries who don't have it so well, oficially i mean.

More people apply for citizenship to the U.S. (greencards included) than to countries in the rest of the world combined.
