US isn't the country where i would live, sorry, since some years US isn't a country where i would have my holidays. Peoples are too religious, too suspicious, and too controled. Your pseudo freedoms are just limited by control and laws for all. You cannot walk with a bottle of alcool in the street, and you must be very very prudent when you come from Europe to US. It s like to come in a country where you can be arresting three times per day if you live like in Europe.
Out of it, US can be a dream for those who are sure too success in this system.
Anti americanism isn't a question of jealousy. Anti americanism is the result of an incredible unconscious arrogance.
"With US or against us" will stand the symbol of it according to me.

(sorry for my english grammary...)
I totally agree, when I got aout of the plane at new york's airport, I was given a test with questions as, "do you pretend to attack the president of the united states? it lasted more than four hours, they opened my baggage and stole a bottle of olive oil that I was bringing as a present for my host family, you felt like a criminal just for not being american.
J'adore la France, je suis été á Bourdeaux trios fois et j'ai vraiment bien passé. J'adore le nouveau tram!!!!

You mean that maybe you would help us this time? Where were the US in 1940? Thx mate, we don't need this kind of help.

Yes, of course you did. I don't understand what you mean. You made the following statement: Actually, no, we're not jealous. Your power comes at a price which many countries are not willing to pay. And it's not your "might" we object to, it's the use you make of it.

You say "we". Perhaps you are referring to all Europeans, or just French: you can answer either way. My question is obviously connected to your statement.

I meant neither. I was responding to this post:

The thing is there actually certain Americans who can't accept our might, they can't accept the fact that yes we are the greatest nation in the world, the most powerful, the most free, the country that everyone wants to come to live.

Sorry if this sounds egotistical but this is the reason why a mixture of jealousy and true hate that it is us that are the best, the greatest.

To be honest its just as radical in certain setiments and elements of America, certain Kool Aid liberals get more mad about it than the French do.

This is just a broader view, not so much in specificity of this article.
"They" is quite nebulous in this post, but I took it to stand for "those who oppose US policies", and so I used "we" in the same sense.

In 1940, the USA maintained an Isolationist policy regarding the tempestuos events in Europe.

The Blitzkrieg swept through Holland and Belgium and bypassed the Maginot Line. The "allied" armies retreated to England and the Panzers took Paris.

The USA entered in 1941 after Pearl Harbor.

Of course Stalin defeated Hitler and took Berlin. But Stalin would have taken all of Europe if not for you know who.

I don't think that is any reason to hold a grudge against America.

But I don't. On the other hand, it's very clear the poster I was replying to (glockmail) holds a grudge against France.

Of course he does.

And I don't hold a grudge against France. The French do their part very well. Almost too well.

I was just responding in the context of the topic and your statement.

1. Is there a point here?
2. in 1940 we were preparing for the war which freed your country from the Germans. Without us you'd be singing "Duetchland".

1. First of all, if you have a beef with me, address me directly. We Americans prefer the direct, in your face, square on the nose approach instead of the pussy footed dancing around the bush variety french method.
2. Of course I hold a grudge- french are pussies. France was our first enemy, and after saving their arses in two world wars they still are, having sold weapons to Sadam Hussein illegally after GW1. Your jets were found buried in the Iraq desert. France also screwed things up in the UN during the run-up to GW2, basically sabotaging full UN support. The deaths of hundreds of thousands of people are thus on your shoulders.

Sorry to butt in on this debate..

As I recall from history lessons the French did help you greatly in your war of independence and they were fighting alongside your troops in the first gulf war.

And about Iraqi and Vietnam war may I quote Robert MacNamara on this (from memory): What makes us omnisicent? We are the most powerful nation in the world today and we should never use that power unilateraly. ...If we cannot persuade other nations with comparable values of the merit of our cause we'd better re-examine our reasoning.
