You really should learn more about the issue before you make yourself look any more foolish than you already do. Then again maybe that is what you are trying to do, and if so congratulations on a job well done.

Re: Most Cdns. oppose Afghanistan deployment: poll

matlocton you have to educate yourself and find out the facts before you go off on a tangent. The people opposing you on this issue aren't a bunch of "libs", these are respected Republicans on this board, trying to tell you that the Canadian soldiers are fighting alongside our US soldiers in Afganistan and you would be better off not dissing them.

To disrespect the Canadian troops is the same as disrespecting the US troops. You wouldn't do that would you?

Re: Most Cdns. oppose Afghanistan deployment: poll

canadian soldiers are do very little in Afghanistan. We don't need them and shouldn't want them by our side. And I am not disrespecting canadian troops, I am only telling the truth. They have a history of being cannon fodder for the English and now they are simply a humanitarian based military. canada's military is laughable for a G-7 country that is a member of NATO.

Re: Most Cdns. oppose Afghanistan deployment: poll

This poll looks like an outlier - and perhaps a product of Prime Minister Harper obviously snuggling up to Bush.

Canada's support for the Afganistan operation has been solid since day one. If it takes a nosedive when Harper snuggles up to Bush, methinks the fall in popularity is not the Afgan policy itself.

I never thought someones credibility could actually go into the negatives, but every time you post, matlocton...

This is Junior's war and Canadians should not be fighting. Let Americans fight the war they started.

The history of Canadian military sacrifice and effort is very impressive. Are you familar with Canada's record during the first world war?

There is certainly a very strong pacifist movement in Canada today - but that does not in any way detract from Canada's military history. It is an insult to those who served and to those who died.

The question of Canada's military readiness NOW is a different issue. I wonder if there is the will, the money, and the support that is needed for effective military action on a large scale (not UN "peacekeeping" - I mean the real thing).

But that has nothing to do with Canada's history.

Well the americans did not 'start' the war in afghanistan. Oustingt the taliban and destroying the AQ camps was justified by any discussion of 'just war'.

That being said, the Candians are discovering that souther afghanistan, the area under their charge, is not a very friendly place to a foreign presence. The problem is that these are the people we have been tasked to protect from the taliban. If it turns out that they would rather align themselves with the taliban we are certainly in a losing battle, and I would argue that we should leave when our commitment expires in the fall. I hardly see the purpose, we are not going to change their religion or convince them of anything.

This really is unbelievable. Another Canadian who hates Americans? You have to provide evidence for these comments if you want your venom to produce even a small response. Many have come before you: you'll have to do better than this.

Re: Most Cdns. oppose Afghanistan deployment: poll

Apparently there is no shortage of Americans at USPO who hate Canada and Canadians (probably as many as vice versa). I should think there are better issues out there worthy of concern.

But that doesn't fit with the US right-wing narrative - they have decided that Canada is weak and socialist and hates America. Ergo, anything that doesn't fit that agenda is ignored. Anything (like some oddball opinion poll) that seems to support their agenda, will be trumpeted as 'proof'.

Anyone who knocks Canada's commitment to NATO and the Afgan operation doesn't know what they are talking about and haven't paid attention to the Afgan Operation.

I agree, having attended many lectures by experts on the subject including several who had served in afghanistan.

Even so, I've seen too many crazed NDP members spewing nonsense at those experts to not be a little worried about this poll.

You do not have a clue about the history of Canada in the world wars, do you? This really is incredibly insulting. :rolleyes
