We don't really need the canadians and I wish they would leave so they will quit acting as if they are making some sort of great contribution...when in reality their efforts are negligible.

You're off-topic, Matlecon. And the canadian military do a lot for the UN. Good causes, you know, not old-fashioned colonization and exploitation.

HOw am I off topic. I want the canadian military out of any US military operation. The Canadian army is historically cannon fodder for the allies. We don't need cannon fodder right now, we need warriors....and the canadian army doesn't qualify. We are better off with afghan 12 year olds.

The Canadians are and have always been some of the best troops among the former british colonies, that includes the US. True they have been badly misused by the british, so you could say they have been cannon fodder. Still, they did the job. If american soldiers were anything special, there wouldn't be a need for all your high-tech gizmos. Makes me think of tourists on safari who think they 're hotshots because they managed to bag a lion with high tech guns, an army of trackers, jeeps, and a helicopter.

If Canada won't abide by its NATO obligations it should withdraw from NATO.

While I agree the Canadian military, such as it is, is not a poor fighting force the fact of the matter is the Canadian public has chosen not to fund a real military. That of course is their decision. However I do think you are off base with the high tech toys. That has nothing to do with the courage of the troops using them, in fact I would argue they would be stupid if they did adopt the approach you seem to suggest and use only their hands against other militaries with guns to prove how macho they are. That would be stupid. The idea of a military is to make the other guy die for his country so you can go home after it is all done and enjoy yours.

Canadian troops are doing quite a bit in Afghanistan, and this "Canada does nothing as we don't need them" nonsense is pretty dumb.

You're just belittling the sacrifices of Canadian troops who gave their lives in the battle to end the Taliban. You should be ashamed.

Thanks Matt. As a Canadian soldier myself I was extremely offended by this poster's ridiculous comments and I'm sure even the most hardcore war hawk would realize how disgusting this thread is.

The canadians have always been ordered to war by England and the US has always taken the responsibilty of defending North America. France, yes, they are cowards.

Candian troops are useless, they have made no sacrafices! All they are good for is humanitarian efforts and fighting wars for England. WE DON'T NEED THEM. WE REALLY DON'T NEED THEM!

How so? They are a humanitarian military that is absolutely useless in the war on terror. With their role in Afghanistan, they shouldn't have any casualties.

You plainly have no clue what Canadian forces are doing there. They are conducing combat operations, not handing out cookies.
