Re: Prime Minister Harper is afraid of the press!

Welcome. Yes they do go off topic quite frequently, and for me that is not a real problem. After a while the topic may get played out, but something else brought up to support the original topic may take on a life. Why start a new thread?

What exactly is the Canadian definition of being liberal anyway? The same as in Europe or the same as in U.S?

Closer to Europe. Traditionally our conservative party was closer to the american democrat. In the US the whole system is shifted to the right.

But some would say the new conservative government in Canada is much more republican than democrat.

So what is the new conservative governments agenda? Could you list the 10 most important things they wanna change or do?

Improve relations with Bush.
Increaser the killing power of the military.
Cut taxes, (but increase them quietly in other areas and hope nobody notices).
Introduce private health care.
Ignore climate change.
Join any war america starts.
Adopt 'stay the course' rhetoric for our mission in afghanistan.
Kill gay people.
Get rid of the gun registry which is useless, and replace it with useless legislation promising to be 'tougher on crime'
Pretend to be very religious so religious people vote for them.

There i thought of eleven things.

Yadk, you poor Canuck things!

I dont like the sound of that either, but I assume they have to respect the constitution. Exaggerating a little bit are we?

Seriously they are just conservatives. I really dont think they will have much of a chance to do too much damage. They are a minority government and one false step, bang, they are gone. The Afghan issue seems to be good for them so far, but they might have some problems with the climate change issue and getting too cozy with republicans.

We are mostly a liberal country. I think we have shifted a bit to the right with this new party, but hey, these things are always in some sort of flux.

My biggest fear is that they will totally ignore climate change, (because their base is totally opposed to any limits on development or emmisions), and we will pay a much higher price than we already will for this. I also fear they will drag us furhter into the WoT, id rather we just stayed out of it in any military sense.
