Syria's Role

Before I jump into the new thread, just wanted to say how humorous it is that much is posted in this section since CNN and FOX are not reporting as much.

The UN has reported that Syria will work to keep the peace in the Middle East and will assist Lebanon as best it can with its upcoming tasks.

Syria has said that they will:

1--boost number of border guards to asist in the interdiction of arms
2--establish laisions with Lebanese army, UNIFIL to assist in the effectiveness of the interdiction.
3--will its influence to stop the importation of arms thru Syria.
4--will work for renewd comprehensive peace agreements.

The UN has stated that it is not responsible for the disarming of militias, just as Syria is not; but both work with the Lebanese army, whose responsibility it is for the disarming.

Re: Syria's Role

Had an opinion when they were accused of being a conduit for Iran, but let something positive occur and you are silent--it is pathetic!

Re: Syria's Role

You have to state something positive first.
It is widely known and accepted CHUQ that Syria supplied Hezbolla along with Iran.
So excuse the lack of enthusiasm from everyone when Syria says they are going to assist helping a problem they played a large rold in creating.

Re: Syria's Role

That is rich--sincethe US supplies arms to Isreal to include cluster bombs(sorry that is under investigation, more later). As long as people (governments) think as you, there will never be peace. My was--what do we have to lose? You do not trust Syria well I do not trust bUSH--so what? If there is a chance of some cooperation--go for it! Bush's propaganda machine works overtime to prevent any positive steps toward a peaceful solution.

Excuse me I thought this thread was about Syria - perhaps you should have entitled the thread "Syria's Role - well not really, I am waiting for a negative comment so I can tell them America is as bad or worse"

Re: Syria's Role

IT IS ABOUT SYRIA--just illustrated that they are not alone with supplying arms to others. EXcuse me but I believe the accusation is that Iran is supplying the arms, Syria is the conduit. Atleast that is the accusation. Anything else?

Some of the missles fired into Isreal were Syrian. They are more than a conduit.

And the last thing Isreal OR Lebanon would want is Syrian forces along this border, for the same reason there cannot be US soldiers on this border.

Re: Syria's Role

Before we entered into this stupid word game, my original point was that they offered to help; in essence extended a hand. Whether you distrust Syria is unimportant; they offered and it is up to Lebanon to decide.
