Talking Re: Georgian Democracy 4ever!

A full-blown political crisis is developing in Georgia after police detained former defense minister-turned-opposition leader Irakli Okruashvili. The arrest came just days after Okruashvili made sensational allegations concerning President Mikheil Saakashvili’s involvement in unconstitutional activity. Shortly before being taken into custody, Okruashvili gave a wide-ranging interview to EurasiaNet. In that interview, Okruashvili outlined his priorities for change and elaborated on his claims and critiques -- ranging from murder conspiracy to authoritarianism -- made against Saakashvili and his administration.

EurasiaNet Eurasia Insight - Georgia: President Silent, While Key Opposition Party Takes Shape

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has blocked the surrounding territory of the Okruashvili’s Oppositional Party “Movement for Unified Georgia”.

Supporters of Irakli Okruashvili, former Minister of Georgia, have been mobilized near the office of Okruashvili's Party.

According to Nana Lezhava, the member of the Okruashvili's Party "Movement for Unified Georgia", many "unknown men" together with police officers broke into the office of Irakli Okruashvili's Party. They refuse from making any comments about the incursion in the Party's office and detention of Irakli Okruashvili.

Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have detained Irakli Okruashvili, former Minister of Defense of Georgia.

Give us a break with the motherland of Stalin already...We know it was, so what? He ruled the USSR, so how is it only Georgia that has an authoritarian tradition? Ethnic slurs do you no credit. I mean, you're Russian, after all...

Re: Georgian Democracy 4ever!

Okruashvili, the leader of opposition, was arrested less than 1 day after he published information that Saakashvili was involved in political murders, diversions and corruption.

On the next day protesters were beaten by the police. Office of Okruashvili's party was blocked by police, destroyed and closed.

Electricity in the whole Tbilisi was switched off. It seems like it was done to prevent Georgians from watching TV and protesting.
