Yes, like the folks you find who decry thoughts of violence and then call for the annihilation of an entire country.

That kind of hypocrisy is pretty remarkable.

Even more so when the person making such statements then goes on to lecture on morality.

This is also my experience. I also find that most Americans are quite ignorant about other countries - except maybe for New Yorkers or the educated part living on the East Coast. Ignorance/ knowledge are directly related to the level of education. Nothing special about this and this would be true for any nation.

Yet, I also find it true that the US like to think themselves as being "global minded", while in fact the global-mindedness stops at their borders. Beyond these borders the general assumption is that it is a wild wild world which should follow the American way in order to reach Happyness (i.e the way Happyness is defined in America)

However, the US are so huge and have so many resources that it may not be otherwise.

If you open a business in the States, for instance, you have a huge market of 300 million people at disposal. Then the film industry, which could be an opening to the outside world, is so huge, no need for foreign imports. Same with news and broadcasting. The language is English, the most spoken in the world I believe, so why learn other languages ? In a way, it is a self-sufficient country which does not need the rest of the world.

Australia is much much smaller, it needs the outside world and therefore will be more interested about what is going on outside its borders.
