I'm not American and find especially Stanford (#2), CIT (#4), Berkeley (#5), MIT (#7) and Princeton (surprisingly low at #15) to be most excellent sources of the highest quality of scientific information and research.
If there are ignorant Americans, it's by no fault of these (and other) institutions.
