As for the topic: it's impossible to answer. You can't judge an entire nation by the actions of a few. That's something I'm very fond of saying on this Forum, ie my criticism of generalisations. There will always be people from one country that we disagree with, and there will always be people that we will love. that's part of acceptance, and part of being a member of society.

I would rather talk about the least fair and balanced people in the world and they live in Copenhagen - Denmark. People there are the worst egocentrical antisocial pricks youll ever find. They are so bad that I will welcome America to blow up the whole god damn city with a 50 megaton nuclear bomb.

i've lived, traveled, studied, worked abroad throughout Europe, Asia and, of course, the US.

here is where i come out:

- everyone has his/her own biases based upon past experiences, pre-conceived notions, environment, political climate, media leanings etc. - everything else is merely a matter of degrees (including "longitude and latitude" kind)

- every country will have political agendas run by respective leaders who not only have, but most likely do, leverage particular issues (such as a particular country or relationships with) and turn them into a political football --> mass media follows those issues (more or less) within that particular country --> people develop their views (more or less) from that perspective (or slant)... i.e. can you really blame a young impressionable Muslim/Arab growing up watching Al Jazeera (like some kids in America who grow up watching ESPN Sportcenter), listening to Islamic fundamentalist clerics preach hate --> who ends up hating America? (and I might add with the same kind of blind devotion/passion as I've seen only from die-hard Notre Dame/USC/Michigan/USC/Yankees/RedSox [insert here] fans)...

- the problem with this question of "balance" and "fairness" is that this assumes / presumes that there exists a group of people, demographic, nation, etc. that is truly objective -- i mean TRULY OBJECTIVE -- i.e. not involved in any way shape or form in engaging with other societies (political, cultural, economical or otherwise)... but this does not exist. everyone is connected in one way or another, so how can one be truly "objective" about anything?

- if history has taught us anything it is that not only does it get written by the "winners", but, perhaps more importantly, that these "winners" inevitably change hands over time and in doing so history is being re-written again to suit the "new" winners...

- perhaps some extra terrestrials will visit us one day and help us all keep score, but until then, we are all biased.

I agree. Countries as a whole are not unbiased, people are. If you have any doubt, look to some of the eejits that have posted in this forum. I have met eejits of many nationalities, and equally as many open minded, informed and rational individuals from same countries.

Countries are either well balanced or not. By that I mean having a good working government where people are happy and well provided for, socially and economically. I believe Sweden is currently on the top of that list.

Right now I would say the US is pretty low on the list, as we have become so polarised politically, and made several poor choices in the international arena. The US is quite insulated as compared to other first world countries, and we probably have one of the least advanced world views in my opinion, due to our lack of unbiased education about world issues.

Finnish are not vikings and don't belong to germanic "family". Finns are finno-ugorians, pre-arian tribe, the closest relatives of finns are hungarians and komi in Russia.

Mille - it depends what definition for a Viking you use. It is not an ethnic group of people. I think that the best definition is that the Vikings were Baltic Sea People who were farmers, traders and seatravellers. To be a viking was a life style of that kind. Finns, Estonians and Baltic Sea Russians can also be included with the Scandinavians. The history of the Vikings has mostly been written in France and Britain and therefore the western origin is exaggerated. The Finns are old Europeans and the Indoeuropeans brought farming and language (related to farming) to Europe not so long time ago.

What comes to the "most balanced people in the world", usually Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway are on the top of any global ranking lists of skills, social well-being, innovations, happiness ... and also in economics - the countries have very high taxation and most common services are free of charge (education, health care, equality, pention - and many other basic services are state-provided and therefore individual incomes are less important). These countries are also famous for development aid, peace work, social equality and responsibility as well as environmental protection.

I voted "Other" because no country or region has provided
proportionately more superior posters.
